Morris County ice cream is not a “pick the closest one” category.
This is a county where I am completely willing to turn ice cream into a drive.
Especially in summer.
Put everyone in the car, pick a town, get a cone, walk around for a little while, go home.
That counts as an activity.
Please do not raise the bar.
If you are searching for ice cream in Morris County, this guide covers the entire county because the good options are scattered everywhere: Morristown, Denville, Boonton, Randolph, Chester, Rockaway, Parsippany, Mountain Lakes, Montville, Jefferson and a lot of places in between.
And the shops themselves are all over the place stylistically too.
Homemade ice cream.
Soft serve.
Gelato.
Rolled ice cream.
Classic scoop shops.
1950s-style parlors.
Family-owned places that have been around forever.
National chains.
Dessert shops.
A place where you can get ice cream and apparently also participate in creative activities, because New Jersey refuses to let dessert remain a simple category.
I support this.

Morris County has several places that have been serving ice cream for decades, plus family-run and homemade shops spread across the county.

Everybody has a place.

Nobody will change their mind because of this guide.
We are simply giving everyone else the evidence they need to form equally strong opinions.
If you want homemade or something different
This is where Morris County gets fun.
The current list includes businesses publishing homemade or handcrafted ice cream, gelato, rolled ice cream, dozens of flavors, bubble tea alongside ice cream and other variations beyond a basic scoop.
If you are the person who wants pistachio gelato, some very specific seasonal flavor or something you have to explain to the rest of the car, scan the “leads with” column before choosing.
If you are the person who wants chocolate in a cup, you will also survive this guide just fine.
If you want ice cream in February
Check the season.
A lot of us mentally classify ice cream as summer food.
This is incorrect.
Some Morris County shops operate year-round.
Others are more seasonal or change hours significantly after summer.
That matters if the craving hits on a random Tuesday in November and you do not want to discover the window has been closed since Labor Day.
Always check current hours before making the trip.
Especially with seasonal businesses.
