Family Law Lawyers in Hunterdon County, NJ
By Tiffany Slowinski
A family law search in Hunterdon County can get personal very quickly.
This is not usually a category where you are comparing businesses for fun.
You may be thinking about divorce and have not told many people yet.
You may already be separated.
You may be trying to understand custody, parenting time, support or what happens to the house.
You may own a business, have significant assets or simply feel overwhelmed by how many parts of your life are suddenly connected to one legal process.
The goal of this guide is not to tell you which lawyer to hire.
It is to make the first round of research more useful.
If you are searching for a divorce or family law lawyer in Hunterdon County, start with the issue that brought you here.
Divorce?
Custody?
Child support?
Alimony?
Property division?
Domestic violence?
A modification after a prior order or agreement?
A prenuptial agreement?
Mediation?
Collaborative divorce?
Those searches can lead to different attorneys and different law-firm models.
Some lawyers devote their practices primarily or exclusively to family law.
Others handle family law as one part of a broader practice.
Some publish mediation or collaborative services.
Others emphasize court representation.
The important thing is not to treat every family law firm as interchangeable.
The Garden State Circle comparison is designed to help with exactly that.
One field you may see is whether an attorney is listed by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Certified Matrimonial Law Attorney.
That is a specific court certification for attorneys who meet its requirements.
It is not required to handle divorce or family law matters in New Jersey.
Many experienced family law lawyers are not certified.
Use the designation as one fact among several rather than as a shortcut for deciding who is right for you.
I would look just as closely at the work the attorney actually publishes.
If custody is your greatest concern, read how the firm talks about custody and parenting time.
If your divorce involves a closely held business, complicated compensation, investments or multiple properties, ask whether the attorney regularly handles financially complex cases.
If you expect the case may be resolved outside court, ask what role mediation, negotiation or a collaborative process could play.
If conflict is already high, ask how the attorney approaches cases that may require significant litigation.
You do not have to know which path the case will take before the consultation.
That is part of what you are there to discuss.
For mediation, understand the role.
A mediator is a neutral third party and does not represent either spouse individually.
That is different from having your own attorney.
Some people may use lawyers in connection with mediation. Some firms may offer both mediation and representation in different matters.
Ask who represents whom.
That sounds obvious until the terminology starts flying.
Hunterdon County also has a geographic reality worth acknowledging.
A countywide search may bring up firms in Flemington, Clinton, Lebanon and other communities, and the lawyer whose practice makes the most sense for you may not be the one with the office closest to home.
For something this personal, I would prioritize fit over shaving eight minutes off the drive.
The first consultation is where you test that fit.
Who will handle the case?
How are fees structured?
What information should you bring?
What should you avoid doing while the matter is pending?
How does the lawyer communicate?
What is the next immediate decision, if any?
If you have children, how does the attorney talk about custody and parenting issues?
If you have financial complexity, what information will the firm need?
You should leave knowing what the next step is, even if you have not decided to take it.

The Guide: Family Law Lawyers, Hunterdon County
How We Selected These Firms
This guide covers Hunterdon County.
A firm appears in the local table if it publishes an office address inside Hunterdon County on its own website and publishes family law as a practice area on its own website.
Each part of that is something you can check yourself. The address and the practice areas are what the firm’s own website says.
That is a test, not a judgment, and it is the only route onto this page. Seven firms meet it. They are listed alphabetically.
About This Guide
This guide is produced by Garden State Circle. Firms appear here because they meet the criteria described above — an office address inside Hunterdon County and family law published as a practice area, both on the firm’s own website. That is a test, not a judgment, and it is the only route onto this page. No company can pay to be included in this guide, to be listed higher, or to change what the comparison table says about it. Firms are listed alphabetically, and every detail in the table was verified against each firm’s own website and the Supreme Court of New Jersey’s published list of certified attorneys in September 2026.
Everything under the heading that begins this guide is governed by the rules above, on every guide we publish. Where a sponsor’s message appears above that heading, it is paid for and labelled, and it buys nothing in the guide. Garden State Circle is supported by the businesses that participate in it. Participation pays for our ongoing work: keeping a business’s entry accurate, re-checking its record, and publishing a page of its own details that the business maintains. There is no paid placement in this guide. Participation does not buy a place here, a position here, or anything the comparison table says.
Garden State Circle is published in New Jersey by Tiffany and Jake Slowinski and covers Hunterdon County. Contact the publisher at jake@gardenstatecircle.com. How every guide is made, in one place: how every guide is made.
Nothing on this page is legal advice, and nothing here says whether you have a case or what it may be worth. Garden State Circle is not a law firm and receives no referral fee from any firm listed. Every firm on this page was checked against its own website and the Supreme Court of New Jersey’s published list of certified matrimonial law attorneys on the date shown above.

This table is in alphabetical order and is not a ranking. “Not published” is a statement about the firm’s website on the date we read it, not about the firm.
Certified Matrimonial Law Attorney is a designation the Supreme Court of New Jersey grants to individual attorneys who apply, meet its experience and education requirements and pass its examination; it lasts five years and is renewable. Most New Jersey attorneys who handle family law cases do not hold it, and not holding it says nothing about an attorney’s standing. We checked each firm’s named attorneys against the court’s published list on the date shown.
Details verified against each firm’s own website in September 2026.
