Those questions are much more useful than a generic five-star rating.

For a toddler going to the dentist for the first time, I would want to know how the first visit works. Is the goal to get everything done no matter what, or is the dentist comfortable meeting the child where they are?

For an older child who already hates the dentist, I would ask directly how the team works with anxious kids.

If your child has sensory sensitivities, developmental differences or another special need, say that before the appointment and ask what accommodations the office can realistically provide.

If you are researching sedation dentistry for a child, do not choose based on a website phrase alone. Ask the pediatric dentist what is actually offered, why it might be recommended in your child’s situation, what alternatives exist and what the process involves.

That is a medical conversation, not a search-engine decision.

Parents also care about the boring logistics because the boring logistics become very exciting when you are trying to get a child to an appointment without missing half the school day.

How far is the office?

What are the hours?

Are new patients being scheduled?

Can you request an appointment online?

Does the office see infants, children and teenagers?

At what age does the practice transition patients to an adult dentist?

Those are fair questions.
