This guide covers six towns: Flemington, Clinton, Lebanon, Whitehouse Station, Chester and Hackettstown.
A practice appears here if it has an office you can walk into within a twenty-five-minute drive of at least one of those six towns, and at least one surgeon identified on the practice’s own website as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
Both halves of that are things you can check yourself. The office is the street address the practice publishes. The drive time was measured in Google Maps from the centre of each town. The surgeon is named on the practice’s own provider page.
That is a test, not a judgment, and it is the only route onto this page. Six practices meet it. They are listed alphabetically.
We did not include practices further north into Morris County. They are a reasonable drive on a map, and they are not where people in these towns actually go.
About This Guide
This guide is produced by Garden State Circle. Practices appear here because they meet the criteria described above — an office within twenty-five minutes of one of the six towns this guide serves, and a named oral and maxillofacial surgeon. What Almost None of Them Tell You
Of the six practices on this page, one publishes what anesthesia it actually offers.
Hunterdon Oral & Maxillofacial Surgical Specialists names intravenous sedation and pediatric anesthesia on its website. West Jersey refers to “a full range of sedation options” without saying what they are. Hudson refers to “experienced anesthesiologists.” Somerset has a page about anesthesia that does not name a single technique. New Jersey Oral lists anesthesia as a procedure. Randolph’s Hackettstown page says nothing at all.
We wanted this to be a column in the table. It cannot be, because five of six rows would read Not published — and a column where almost every cell is empty tells you less than a sentence does.
So here is the sentence: if sedation matters to you, you will have to ask, because the websites will not answer it. The questions worth asking are further down.
The Practices
Hudson Oral Surgery
Four surgeons — Steven Bogart, DDS; Hubert Gugala, DMD; Yaniv Harel, DMD, MD; and Harleen Kaur, DDS — are board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and the practice’s Hackettstown office on Route 46 is one of four New Jersey locations.
Hunterdon Oral & Maxillofacial Surgical Specialists
Dr. Olumide Olawoye holds active surgical and admitting privileges at Hunterdon Medical Center, on whose Flemington campus the practice sits, and is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology and the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine.
New Jersey Oral, Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery
Dr. Karl Maloney, a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon with sixteen years in practice, sees patients at the Branchburg office on Route 22 — fourteen minutes from Lebanon and twenty-four from Flemington.
Randolph Center for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
The Hackettstown office on Willow Grove Street is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 5:00 and is one of several New Jersey locations staffed from a group of ten oral and maxillofacial surgeons; the practice does not publish which of the ten see patients at this address.
Somerset Oral Surgery and Dental Implants
The practice was founded in 1970, and its Lebanon office on Route 31 is ten minutes from Flemington and twelve from Lebanon, where Alan Hecht, DMD, a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, practices with Tyler Jacobs, DDS, MD.
West Jersey Oral, Maxillofacial & Dental Implant Surgery
Joseph Sansevere, DMD; Travis Reed, DMD; and Matthew Sansevere, DMD are board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons at the Sandhill Road office in Flemington, which uses 3D cone beam CT imaging for surgical planning.
Common Questions
Do I need a referral to see an oral surgeon?
No. Most patients arrive because a general dentist sent them, but none of these practices requires a referral to book a consultation.
What does an oral and maxillofacial surgeon do that my dentist doesn’t?
An oral and maxillofacial surgeon completes a hospital-based surgical residency after dental school — four to six years, sometimes alongside a medical degree. In practice that means impacted teeth, difficult extractions, implants where bone has to be built first, jaw surgery, pathology, and the ability to give deeper sedation in the office. A general dentist can place implants and remove teeth. The question is not who is allowed to, it is who does it every day.
What should I ask about sedation?
Ask what they offer — local anaesthetic, nitrous oxide, intravenous sedation, general anaesthesia. Ask who administers it and what credential that person holds. Ask whether it is monitored by someone other than the person operating. As noted above, only one of these six publishes the answer, so this is a phone call.
What will the consultation cost, and is imaging included?
Ask before you book. Consultation fees and whether 3D imaging is bundled vary between these practices, and none of them publishes a price. Ask specifically whether a CT scan is billed separately.
Do they take my insurance?
None of the six publishes a list of accepted plans. Call with your plan name and your specific procedure — coverage for oral surgery often splits between medical and dental, and the answer differs by procedure rather than by practice.
Are they taking new patients?
All six actively market for them — several publish online booking and new-patient forms. None publishes a formal statement about current availability, so if you have a specific procedure or a timeline, ask when you call.
How far will I actually have to drive?
The table gives measured drive times from Flemington and Lebanon. If you are in Hackettstown, the two Hackettstown practices are minutes away and everything else is a half-hour or more. If you are in Clinton or Whitehouse Station, the Flemington and Lebanon practices are your closest options.
