Driveways are one of those things you barely notice until suddenly you notice them constantly.

A crack turns into several cracks.

The edge starts crumbling.

Water sits in the same spot every time it rains.

The area in front of the garage sinks just enough that you now drive over it slowly like that is somehow helping.

Eventually you have to decide what you are actually dealing with.

Repair?

Resurface?

Replace?

If you are searching for a paving contractor in Somerset County, that is the first question I would want answered before anybody starts talking about price.

Because those are three very different projects.

A driveway with a few isolated cracks is not the same thing as asphalt that is breaking apart across the entire surface.

A driveway with a decent base may be a candidate for resurfacing.

A driveway with drainage problems, widespread sinking or a failing base may need to come out so the problem underneath can actually be fixed.

The surface is what you see.

The base and drainage are what determine whether you are having this conversation again much sooner than you wanted.

That is why I would be slightly suspicious of any estimate that focuses almost entirely on the new blacktop and barely discusses what is happening underneath it.

Ask.

Are you removing the existing asphalt or paving over it?

What condition is the base in?

How will the driveway be graded?

Where is the water supposed to go?

What happens at the garage, sidewalk, road or any other transition?

How thick will the finished asphalt be?

What happens if you uncover soft or unstable areas once work begins?

Those questions matter much more than whether the new driveway looks beautiful on day one.

Most new driveways look beautiful on day one.

I care about the second winter.

Somerset County gives homeowners plenty of paving companies to choose from, and the services can overlap with masonry, concrete, Belgian block, drainage, sealcoating and other exterior work.

That makes it even more important to define the job before comparing contractors.

If the driveway itself is failing, you need a paving conversation.

If you mainly want a new paver apron, retaining wall or Belgian block border, that may involve a different mix of work.

If drainage is causing the driveway problem, simply replacing the asphalt without addressing the water may give you a very expensive version of the same problem.

Tell the contractor what you are seeing.

Where does water collect?

Where does snow melt?

Where are the worst cracks?

Has the driveway settled?

Did the problem start after another project?

Does water run toward the garage or house?

The more specific you are, the more useful the estimate should become.

The Garden State Circle guide below gives you another piece of information I would absolutely check before hiring.

In New Jersey, businesses doing residential driveway work fall under the state’s Home Improvement Contractor Business registration system. Garden State Circle verifies that public record for the contractors included in the guide.

That registration is not a rating and it does not tell you who does the best paving work.

It is a basic business credential worth knowing before you sign a contract or hand over a deposit.

Then compare estimates.

And I mean actually compare them.

One contractor may be quoting full excavation and base work.

Another may be quoting an overlay.

One may include Belgian block.

Another may not.

One may include drainage adjustments, disposal and transitions.

Another may list those as separate work.

If the prices are dramatically different, the first question should be whether they are pricing the same project.

Ask for the scope in writing.

Ask what is not included.

Ask when you can drive or park on the new surface.

Ask how the contractor wants you to maintain it.

Ask what warranty is provided on the work.

If sealcoating is being recommended, ask what condition the asphalt should be in first and what the sealcoat is expected to accomplish.

Sealcoating is maintenance.

It is not a structural repair for a driveway whose base is failing.

This guide is useful if you are searching for paving contractors Somerset County NJ, driveway paving, asphalt driveway replacement, driveway resurfacing, asphalt repair, driveway drainage, Belgian block driveway edging, sealcoating, blacktop contractors, driveway widening or residential paving companies near me.

You do not need to become a paving expert.

You need to know whether the contractor is fixing the driveway you can see or the reason it failed in the first place.

That is the question.

The Guide: Paving Contractors in Somerset County, NJ

New Jersey does not license pavers. It registers home improvement contractors — to a legal entity, not to the name painted on the truck. The number, when one is published, begins 13VH and runs eight digits after it. It is issued by the Division of Consumer Affairs, and it is free to look up. This guide covers Somerset County. The table exists to tell the companies apart on the record, not to tell you which is best.

How We Selected These Companies

Paving contractors that do the paving work themselves and serve Somerset County. The registration column shows what the New Jersey home improvement contractor register showed for each business on the date we checked. The test is not one of size, of price, or of what we think of the work. Sealcoating-only, line-striping-only and masonry-only (pavers, patios, walkways) operators are not paving in the sense this guide means and are not on this page. Nine companies are in the table below.

About This Guide

This guide is produced by Garden State Circle. Companies appear here because they meet the criteria described above — they do the paving work themselves and serve Somerset County. That is a test, not a judgment, and it is the only route onto this page. No company can pay to be included in this guide, to be listed higher, or to change what the comparison table says about it. Companies are listed alphabetically, and every detail in the table was verified against each company’s own website and against the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs registrant record in September 2026.

Everything under the heading that begins this guide is governed by the rules above, on every guide we publish. Where a sponsor’s message appears above that heading, it is paid for and labeled, and it buys nothing in the guide. Garden State Circle is supported by the businesses that participate in it. Participation pays for our ongoing work: keeping a business’s entry accurate, re-checking its record, and publishing a page of its own details that the business maintains. There is no paid placement in this guide. Participation does not buy a place here, a position here, or anything the comparison table says. Where a row carries a verification date, that is when we last checked that business’s record ourselves. A row without one has not been checked recently — that is a fact about our work, not about the business.

Which of These Companies Is Actually in These Towns

Of the nine companies on this page, two publish premises in Bridgewater, two in Bernardsville, and one each in Somerville, Bound Brook, Franklin Township (Somerset), North Plainfield and Manville. A paving crew and its material travel further than a roofer’s ladder does, so the town each business publishes is printed in the table.

What the registration is, and what it is not

A 13VH registration means the business has registered with the state and is subject to the Contractors’ Registration Act. It is not a competency examination and it is not a trade license — New Jersey does not test pavers the way it tests electricians, plumbers or heating contractors. It tells you a business exists on the record and can be found again. That is worth having and it is not the same as skill.

The Companies

All Design Paving & Masonry New Jersey, Bound Brook — an asphalt, concrete and masonry contractor at 757 Cedarcrest Drive, publishing registration 13VH11069600. The state records that number active in Piscataway; the business’s own site prints Bound Brook. We record both towns and do not decide which is correct.

Bentley Paving and Masonry, Somerset (Franklin Township) — an asphalt and concrete paving contractor at 105 Clyde Road, publishing parking lots, driveways and pavers. Its site prints Lic#13VHO8169100, a letter O where the state’s format has a digit.

Countryside Paving Company, Inc., Bernardsville — an asphalt paving contractor at 35A Old Quarry Road, publishing driveways, parking lots, sealcoating, Belgian block and tar-and-chip work.

D&A Paving & Sealcoating, Bridgewater — an asphalt paving contractor at 59 Old York Road, publishing commercial and residential paving, milling and sealcoating. Registration is not published on its own site; the state records D&A Sealcoating & Paving Limited Liability Company as active in Bridgewater.

Drivestyle Paving and Masonry, Bridgewater — an asphalt and concrete paving contractor at 296 Janine Way, publishing driveway, resurfacing and parking-lot work. It states it is licensed and insured but publishes no number; not found by us on the state register under this name.

Maloney’s Paving and Masonry, Bernardsville — an asphalt and concrete paving contractor at 80 Morristown Road, also publishing interlocking pavers and patios. Registration 13VH08914200 is recorded active in Bernardsville under Maloney’s Paving & Masonry T/A Michael Maloney.

Mata Paving & More LLC, North Plainfield — a residential and commercial paving contractor at 61 Brook Avenue, also publishing masonry, pavers and concrete work. Registration is not published on its own site; the state records Mata Paving and More LLC as active in North Plainfield.

Top Line Construction Corporation, Somerville — an asphalt paving, milling, grading and site-concrete contractor at 22 Fifth Street. Its own site publishes no registration number; the Division of Consumer Affairs register has no listing we could find under this name, checked September 2026.

Uneek Paving & Masonry Corp, Manville — an asphalt, concrete and masonry contractor at 125 South 17th Avenue, publishing driveways, walkways and sealing. Its site prints no registration number.

Common Questions

Does a paving contractor in Somerset County, NJ need a license?

Not a trade license. New Jersey does not examine or license pavers the way it licenses electricians, plumbers and heating contractors. Home improvement contractors register with the state under the Contractors’ Registration Act — the 13VH number. Whether a given paving job falls inside the Act is a question for the state, not for this guide; what we publish is the record we ran.

Why does the registered name not match the company name?

Because registration attaches to a legal entity and trading names are free to differ from it. A registration held in an owner’s name or under a different legal entity would not surface in the searches we ran, and that is a common and entirely lawful arrangement. It is normal, and it is why searching the state registry by the name on your estimate often returns nothing at all.

Why does the registered town not always match the town the business publishes?

A registered office and an operating yard are different things, and a business is entitled to both. Where the two differ on this page, we print both and do not decide which one describes where the work is actually done.

What does it mean when no status is printed for a business?

We print a registration only when the state records it as active on the day we check, and we print nothing else about a named business’s standing.

Who Governs Paving Work in Somerset County, NJ

Paving work in New Jersey answers to two state agencies. The registration — the 13VH number in the table above — is issued by the Division of Consumer Affairs. The permit belongs to the Uniform Construction Code, N.J.A.C. 5:23, written by the Department of Community Affairs, Division of Codes and Standards, and enforced by each municipality’s own construction office, listed below.

Every office above was read from the municipality’s own published pages in September 2026. Names are published only where the municipality publishes them. Whether a particular paving job needs a permit — a driveway apron touches the public right-of-way in most towns — is interpreted by the town’s own construction office, not by us. We publish what each municipality published, with the date we checked it; confirm with the office before you rely on it.
