Plumbers in Bridgewater, Branchburg and Raritan, NJ: What the State Record Says

Plumbers in Bridgewater, Branchburg and Raritan, NJ: What the State Record Says

Looking for a Plumber in Bridgewater? Here’s What I’d Want to Know

Nobody goes looking for a plumber because they suddenly have a free afternoon and thought it sounded fun. Usually something is leaking, clogged, making a weird noise or producing water somewhere water absolutely should not be.

If I were looking for a plumber in Bridgewater, my first question would be pretty basic: Who actually works here? Not who bought the biggest Google ad. Not who has the fanciest website. Who regularly serves homeowners in this area and handles the kind of job I have.

Then I’d want to know what they actually do. A plumber who is great for a water heater replacement may not be the first call for a backed-up sewer line. Some companies focus heavily on leaks and everyday plumbing repairs. Others handle water treatment, boilers, drain cleaning, sewer lines or larger plumbing projects.

I’d also want to know whether they take smaller jobs. Sometimes you do not need a bathroom renovation. You need somebody to fix the toilet, replace a valve, figure out why the water pressure suddenly stinks or stop the mystery drip that is slowly driving you insane.

Emergency service matters too. If a pipe bursts at 9 p.m. on a Saturday, “Monday through Friday, 8 to 4” becomes fairly important information. We looked at what each company actually publishes about emergency and after-hours service rather than assuming every plumber who answers the phone is available 24/7.

Then there is the whole question of “local.” To me, local does not necessarily mean the company has an office three miles from my house. It means they actually work in my town, will come out for the job and know the area. A great plumber in the next town over is still pretty local when there is water coming through the ceiling.

I also want to know who is behind the company. New Jersey plumbing businesses operate under a Master Plumber license held by a named individual. That does not tell you whether someone will do beautiful work or show up exactly at 8:03 a.m. It does give you something concrete to check instead of relying on the words “licensed and insured” on a website.

That is why we included the license information businesses publish and checked it against the state record when we could. We also show when information is not published or when we could not match it. That is not a judgment on the company. It is simply the information we were able to check.

You will also see specialties, location information and published emergency service in the guide below. The idea is not to tell you there is one “best plumber” for every homeowner in Bridgewater. There usually isn’t. The best call depends on whether you have a leaking pipe, a dead water heater, a clogged sewer line or a much bigger project on your hands.

So start with the problem you actually need solved. Then use the guide below to narrow down who serves your area, who handles that type of work and what we were able to check about the business behind the name. That feels a lot more useful to me than scrolling through 14 nearly identical websites that all promise “quality service.”

The Guide: Plumbers in Bridgewater, Branchburg and Raritan, NJ

Jump to the table ↓

New Jersey licenses plumbing to a named person. Every company that repairs a burst pipe, replaces a water heater or reworks a bathroom in this state works under a Master Plumber license held by an individual, registered with the State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers, and searchable by anyone in about ninety seconds.

The state also requires that the number appear in the company’s advertising. Under N.J.A.C. 13:32-3.1(c), all advertising by a licensed master plumber must carry the plumber’s name, the New Jersey business address, and the words “Plumbing license number” or “Plumbing Lic. #” followed by the number.

Nine of the fourteen companies here publish it, and five publish nothing at all. This guide reports, for every company, exactly what it publishes about its own license and exactly what the state record returns when that number is run. Where a company publishes nothing, the guide says that too — and says nothing further about it.

How We Selected These Plumbers

This guide covers four municipalities: Bridgewater (Martinsville), Branchburg, Raritan and Bound Brook.

A company appears here if it performs residential plumbing work for homeowners in those towns, and if it says so itself — by naming one of them on its own website, or by holding a state registration at an address inside one of them.

The license is not a condition of entry. It is the first column, and a blank in it is not a mark against a company. Several established plumbing shops in these towns publish no license number anywhere, and some have no website at all. Every qualifying company is listed, and the column reports what each one publishes and what the state record returns.

Fourteen companies meet the test, and two more appear in a second section below. They are listed alphabetically. Some are shops in these towns; some are larger operations nearby that name these towns on their own service pages. The table says which is which.

About This Guide

This guide is produced by Garden State Circle. Companies appear here because they meet the criterion described above — they perform residential plumbing work for homeowners in the towns this guide covers. That is a test, not a judgment, and it is the only route onto this page. No company can pay to be included in this guide, to be listed higher, or to change what the comparison table says about it. Companies are listed alphabetically, and every detail in the table was verified against each company’s own website and against the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs licensee record in September 2026.

Everything under the heading that begins this guide is governed by the rules above, on every guide we publish. Where a sponsor’s message appears above that heading, it is paid for and labelled, and it buys nothing in the guide. Garden State Circle is supported by the businesses that participate in it. Participation pays for our ongoing work: keeping a business’s entry accurate, re-checking its record, and publishing a page of its own details that the business maintains. There is no paid placement in this guide. Participation does not buy a place here, a position here, or anything the comparison table says. Every detail here was verified on the date shown on this page.

Garden State Circle is published in New Jersey by Tiffany and Jake Slowinski and covers Bridgewater (Martinsville), Branchburg, Raritan and Bound Brook. Contact the publisher at jake@gardenstatecircle.com. How every guide is made, in one place: how every guide is made.

How to Read the License Column

New Jersey issues more than one kind of plumbing license, and they are not interchangeable.

Master Plumber is the contractor’s license. A master plumber may hold out to the public, take contracts and qualify a business. Every plumbing company operating lawfully in New Jersey works under one, held by a named individual.

Journeyman Plumber is a license to do the work, not to sell it. A journeyman plumber is genuinely licensed by the state and is not qualified to contract in their own name. A company described only as employing “licensed plumbers” has not told you which of the two it means.

The column reports state licensure on the date shown, and nothing else. It is not a rating, not a measure of quality, and not a statement about insurance. A number prints only where a single state record matches; where more than one person shares a name, the guide says so and prints no number.

Three phrases appear in the column and each means one thing. Not published means we read the company’s website and the fact is not on it. Not found by us means we searched the state record and did not find a match. Neither is a statement about the company.

Common Questions

What is the difference between a master plumber and a journeyman plumber in New Jersey?
A master plumber holds the contractor’s license: they may advertise to the public, take contracts and qualify a business. A journeyman plumber is licensed to perform plumbing work but not to contract in their own name. Both are licensed by the state. A company that describes its people only as “licensed plumbers” has not said which it means.

Is a plumbing company required to publish its license number?
Yes. N.J.A.C. 13:32-3.1 requires the licensed master plumber’s name, New Jersey business address and license number to appear in all advertising, on business correspondence and invoices, and on both sides of every commercial vehicle used in the work. The rule also makes anyone whose name or number appears in an advertisement personally responsible for its content.

What does it mean when a plumber’s advertising says part of the work may be performed by subcontractors?
It means the state required them to say it. Under N.J.A.C. 13:32-3.1(e), a plumbing contractor who subcontracts out more than a third of a year’s work must state in all advertising: “A substantial part of the work which we undertake may be performed by independent licensed plumbing subcontractors.” The absence of that sentence is not evidence of anything — a company may simply be under the threshold — but where it appears, it is there because the rule put it there.

Who inspects plumbing work in these towns?
Each municipality has its own construction office, and permits and inspections are handled locally rather than by the state. Bridgewater’s own page states the ordering plainly: no building inspection is made before the required electric or plumbing inspection has been approved. The offices covering this guide’s towns are listed below.

If a company is not in this guide, does that mean it is not licensed?
No. This guide lists companies that work in Bridgewater, Branchburg and Raritan and say so themselves. A company can be perfectly well licensed and simply not appear here. The guide does not publish anything about the standing of a business that is not on it, and a blank in the table is a statement about a website or about our search, never about a company.

Who Governs Plumbing Work in Bridgewater, Branchburg and Raritan, NJ

Two state agencies sit behind residential plumbing work in New Jersey. The Division of Consumer Affairs, through the State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers, issues and renews the license in this guide’s table; a master plumber license is renewed every two years. The Department of Community Affairs, Division of Codes and Standards administers the Uniform Construction Code, whose plumbing subcode governs the work itself. New Jersey adopted the 2024 editions of the model codes on August 17, 2026, according to the Division’s current codes table.

Permits and inspections are municipal. Each town below runs its own office, and no two of them call it the same thing.

Bound Brook Not found by us Not found by us Not found by us Not found by us
Branchburg Building & Code Enforcement, 1077 US Highway 202 North (908) 526-1300 ext. 147 John Tamburini, Building & Code Official 7:00am–3:30pm, Monday through Friday
Bridgewater (Martinsville) Code Enforcement (908) 725-6300 ext. 5560 John Tillotson, Construction Official Mon–Fri 9:00am–4:30pm
Raritan Construction / Planning & Zoning, 9 West Somerset Street 908-231-1300 ext. 125 Not published Mon–Fri 8:30am–4:15pm

Offices read September 2 and September 4, 2026.

The department is not called the same thing in any two of these towns. Bridgewater has no department called Construction — permits and inspections run through Code Enforcement. Branchburg calls it Building & Code Enforcement. Raritan calls it Construction / Planning & Zoning and combines it with the zoning desk. None of the three names transfers to another town, and looking for the wrong one returns nothing rather than an error.

Bridgewater also runs a separate Zoning Department at a different extension with different hours, and publishes its own list of work that needs a zoning permit — decks, patios, sheds, fences, pools, generators. A homeowner adding a deck in Bridgewater needs an answer from both offices, and neither page links to the other.

Fee schedules are adopted by ordinance and change. Requirements are interpreted by the town’s own construction office, not by us. We publish what the township published, with the date we checked it, and we link to the page it came from — confirm with the construction office before you rely on it.
