Plumbers in Warren, Watchung and Green Brook, NJ: What the State Record Says

Plumbers in Warren, Watchung and Green Brook, NJ: What the State Record Says

Looking for a Plumber in the Watchung Hills? Here’s What I’d Want to Know

Nobody goes looking for a plumber because they suddenly have a free afternoon and thought it sounded fun. Usually something is leaking, clogged, making a weird noise or producing water somewhere water absolutely should not be.

If I were looking for a plumber in the Watchung Hills, my first question would be pretty basic: Who actually works here? Not who bought the biggest Google ad. Not who has the fanciest website. Who regularly serves homeowners in this area and handles the kind of job I have.

Then I’d want to know what they actually do. A plumber who is great for a water heater replacement may not be the first call for a backed-up sewer line. Some companies focus heavily on leaks and everyday plumbing repairs. Others handle water treatment, boilers, drain cleaning, sewer lines or larger plumbing projects.

I’d also want to know whether they take smaller jobs. Sometimes you do not need a bathroom renovation. You need somebody to fix the toilet, replace a valve, figure out why the water pressure suddenly stinks or stop the mystery drip that is slowly driving you insane.

Emergency service matters too. If a pipe bursts at 9 p.m. on a Saturday, “Monday through Friday, 8 to 4” becomes fairly important information. We looked at what each company actually publishes about emergency and after-hours service rather than assuming every plumber who answers the phone is available 24/7.

Then there is the whole question of “local.” To me, local does not necessarily mean the company has an office three miles from my house. It means they actually work in my town, will come out for the job and know the area. A great plumber in the next town over is still pretty local when there is water coming through the ceiling.

I also want to know who is behind the company. New Jersey plumbing businesses operate under a Master Plumber license held by a named individual. That does not tell you whether someone will do beautiful work or show up exactly at 8:03 a.m. It does give you something concrete to check instead of relying on the words “licensed and insured” on a website.

That is why we included the license information businesses publish and checked it against the state record when we could. We also show when information is not published or when we could not match it. That is not a judgment on the company. It is simply the information we were able to check.

You will also see specialties, location information and published emergency service in the guide below. The idea is not to tell you there is one “best plumber” for every homeowner in the Watchung Hills. There usually isn’t. The best call depends on whether you have a leaking pipe, a dead water heater, a clogged sewer line or a much bigger project on your hands.

So start with the problem you actually need solved. Then use the guide below to narrow down who serves your area, who handles that type of work and what we were able to check about the business behind the name. That feels a lot more useful to me than scrolling through 14 nearly identical websites that all promise “quality service.”

The Guide: Plumbers in Warren, Watchung and Green Brook, NJ

Jump to the table ↓

New Jersey licenses plumbing to a named person. Every company that repairs a burst pipe, replaces a water heater or reworks a bathroom in this state works under a Master Plumber license held by an individual, registered with the State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers, and searchable by anyone in about ninety seconds.

The state also requires that the number appear in the company’s advertising. Under N.J.A.C. 13:32-3.1(c), all advertising by a licensed master plumber must carry the plumber’s name, the New Jersey business address, and the words “Plumbing license number” or “Plumbing Lic. #” followed by the number.

Nine of the thirteen companies here publish it, and four publish nothing at all. This guide reports, for every company, exactly what it publishes about its own license and exactly what the state record returns when that number is run. Where a company publishes nothing, the guide says that too — and says nothing further about it.

How We Selected These Plumbers

This guide covers three municipalities: Warren, Watchung and Green Brook.

A company appears here if it performs residential plumbing work for homeowners in those towns, and if it says so itself — by naming one of them on its own website, or by holding a state registration at an address inside one of them.

One note on the word Warren, because it costs people money. Warren Township is in Somerset County, next to Watchung and Green Brook. New Jersey also has a Warren County, an hour west, and plenty of contractors use the bare word to mean the county — Phillipsburg, Hackettstown, Washington. A company that says it serves “Warren” is not necessarily saying it serves this one. Every company on this page was checked against which Warren it meant.

The license is not a condition of entry. It is the first column, and a blank in it is not a mark against a company. Every qualifying company is listed, and the column reports what each one publishes and what the state record returns.

Thirteen companies meet the test. They are listed alphabetically.

About This Guide

This guide is produced by Garden State Circle. Companies appear here because they meet the criterion described above — they perform residential plumbing work for homeowners in the towns this guide covers. That is a test, not a judgment, and it is the only route onto this page. No company can pay to be included in this guide, to be listed higher, or to change what the comparison table says about it. Companies are listed alphabetically, and every detail in the table was verified against each company’s own website and against the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs licensee record in September 2026.

Everything under the heading that begins this guide is governed by the rules above, on every guide we publish. Where a sponsor’s message appears above that heading, it is paid for and labelled, and it buys nothing in the guide. Garden State Circle is supported by the businesses that participate in it. Participation pays for our ongoing work: keeping a business’s entry accurate, re-checking its record, and publishing a page of its own details that the business maintains. There is no paid placement in this guide. Participation does not buy a place here, a position here, or anything the comparison table says. Every detail here was verified on the date shown on this page.

Garden State Circle is published in New Jersey by Tiffany and Jake Slowinski and covers Warren, Watchung and Green Brook. Contact the publisher at jake@gardenstatecircle.com. How every guide is made, in one place: how every guide is made.

How to Read the License Column

New Jersey issues more than one kind of plumbing license, and they are not interchangeable.

Master Plumber is the contractor’s license. A master plumber may hold out to the public, take contracts and qualify a business. Every plumbing company operating lawfully in New Jersey works under one, held by a named individual.

Journeyman Plumber is a license to do the work, not to sell it. A journeyman plumber is genuinely licensed by the state and is not qualified to contract in their own name. A company described only as employing “licensed plumbers” has not told you which of the two it means.

The column reports state licensure on the date shown, and nothing else. It is not a rating, not a measure of quality, and not a statement about insurance. A number prints only where a single state record matches; where more than one person shares a name, the guide says so and prints no number.

Three phrases appear in the column and each means one thing. Not published means we read the company’s website and the fact is not on it. Not found by us means we searched the state record and did not find a match. Neither is a statement about the company.

The Companies

Bob Rath Plumbing is on Watchung Avenue in Watchung and names Warren among the Somerset and Union County towns it serves. It publishes the license the way the state rule describes it — the credential, the holder and the number together: Robert Rath, NJ Licensed Master Plumber, license #7772. The state record returns that license as active in his name. It also publishes a Master HVACR contractor number. Emergency services are listed; no hours are published.

Byla Plumbing works from Warren Township and handles residential service and repair during conventional hours. The company publishes no website and no license number, and no state record has been matched to it.

Fast Lane Plumbing & Heating

Fast Lane Plumbing & Heating is based in Somerville and names Warren among the towns it serves, along with Bridgewater, Branchburg, Raritan and Bedminster. It publishes Plumbing Lic. #13646 on its own site; the number resolves in the state record to Wesley Bruce Lane, Jr., active, at a Somerville address. It advertises 24/7 emergency service.

Fidalgo Mechanical works from Anderson Road in Watchung and publishes sheet metal, mechanical and plumbing work among its services. It holds a New Jersey home improvement registration at that address. Nothing is published about who holds its plumbing license, and no state record has been matched to the company.

Jersey Plumbing Service

Jersey Plumbing Service works from Hillsborough and covers Somerset, Morris, Hunterdon, Essex and Union counties. It states that its phones are answered around the clock by its own team rather than an answering service.

New Era Plumbing

New Era Plumbing names Warren and Watchung on its own site, along with Bridgewater, Somerville, Bound Brook, Martinsville and a long list of towns further east. Its published work covers residential and commercial maintenance, piping repair and bathroom plumbing, and it publishes Saturday hours. The site publishes no street address and no license number.

Queen B Plumbing, Heating and Cooling

Queen B dispatches into these towns and publishes round-the-clock service covering burst pipes, heating and cooling. A license number circulating for this company in search results is eleven characters long, and a New Jersey plumbing license number is twelve — 36BI followed by eight digits. Nothing has been published here on that basis, and no state record has been matched to the company.

Regional Plumbing & Heating LLC

Vanguard does not name the holder on its site. It states that “every job is performed by our own licensed technicians. No subcontractors.”

Warrenville Plumbing & Co., LLC

Warrenville Plumbing works from Dunellen, on the Green Brook line, and services Somerset County neighbourhoods with weekday hours plus half-days on Saturdays. It publishes its license in the full state format — Lic. #36BI01372200 — which resolves in the state record to Christopher M Baran, active, at a Dunellen address. Emergency service is available.

Common Questions

What is the difference between a master plumber and a journeyman plumber in New Jersey?
A master plumber holds the contractor’s license: they may advertise to the public, take contracts and qualify a business. A journeyman plumber is licensed to perform plumbing work but not to contract in their own name. Both are licensed by the state. A company that describes its people only as “licensed plumbers” has not said which it means.

Is a plumbing company required to publish its license number?
Yes. N.J.A.C. 13:32-3.1 requires the licensed master plumber’s name, New Jersey business address and license number to appear in all advertising, on business correspondence and invoices, and on both sides of every commercial vehicle used in the work. The rule also makes anyone whose name or number appears in an advertisement personally responsible for its content.

What does it mean when a plumber’s advertising says part of the work may be performed by subcontractors?
It means the state required them to say it. Under N.J.A.C. 13:32-3.1(e), a plumbing contractor who subcontracts out more than a third of a year’s work must state in all advertising: “A substantial part of the work which we undertake may be performed by independent licensed plumbing subcontractors.” The absence of that sentence is not evidence of anything — a company may simply be under the threshold — but where it appears, it is there because the rule put it there.

A company says it serves Warren. How do I know which Warren?
Read the sentence, not the word. Warren Township is in Somerset County; Warren County is an hour west, around Phillipsburg and Hackettstown. If a company lists Warren alongside Phillipsburg, Hackettstown or Washington, or alongside the words “Warren County,” it means the other one. Every company on this page was checked.

Who inspects plumbing work in these towns?
Each municipality runs its own construction office. Watchung and Green Brook both publish a plumbing subcode official by name; Warren Township publishes an office but no names. All three are listed below.

Who Governs Plumbing Work in Warren, Watchung and Green Brook, NJ

Two state agencies sit behind residential plumbing work in New Jersey. The Division of Consumer Affairs, through the State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers, issues and renews the license in this guide’s table; a master plumber license is renewed every two years. The Department of Community Affairs, Division of Codes and Standards administers the Uniform Construction Code, whose plumbing subcode governs the work itself. New Jersey adopted the 2024 editions of the model codes on August 17, 2026, according to the Division’s current codes table.

Permits and inspections are municipal.

Watchung’s Construction Official is also its Plumbing Inspector. Dan Niro holds both roles, which means in Watchung the person who signs the permit is the person who inspects the pipe. Green Brook separates the two and publishes four subcode officials by name. Warren Township publishes an office and an address but no names and no direct number; parts of the township’s site would not open to us, so the row says so rather than guessing.

Fee schedules are adopted by ordinance and change. Requirements are interpreted by the town’s own construction office, not by us. We publish what the township published, with the date we checked it — confirm with the construction office before you rely on it.

Corrections

Things change. A license is renewed under a different holder, a company moves, a phone number is retired, a business closes or opens a new office.

If anything on this page is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Email admin@gardenstatecircle.com. Corrections are made whether or not a business participates in Garden State Circle, and there is no charge for one.

If your plumbing company is not on this page and you believe it should be, email the same address. The test is the one described at the top: you perform residential plumbing work for homeowners in Warren, Watchung or Green Brook, and you say so on your own website or hold a state registration at an address in one of those towns.

Something out of date?
