Looking for a Plumber in Belle Mead, Skillman and Montgomery Township? Here’s What I’d Want to Know

Nobody goes looking for a plumber because they suddenly have a free afternoon and thought it sounded fun. Usually something is leaking, clogged, making a weird noise or producing water somewhere water absolutely should not be.

If I were looking for a plumber in Belle Mead, Skillman and Montgomery Township, my first question would be pretty basic: Who actually works here? Not who bought the biggest Google ad. Not who has the fanciest website. Who regularly serves homeowners in this area and handles the kind of job I have.

Then I’d want to know what they actually do. A plumber who is great for a water heater replacement may not be the first call for a backed-up sewer line. Some companies focus heavily on leaks and everyday plumbing repairs. Others handle water treatment, boilers, drain cleaning, sewer lines or larger plumbing projects.

I’d also want to know whether they take smaller jobs. Sometimes you do not need a bathroom renovation. You need somebody to fix the toilet, replace a valve, figure out why the water pressure suddenly stinks or stop the mystery drip that is slowly driving you insane.

Emergency service matters too. If a pipe bursts at 9 p.m. on a Saturday, “Monday through Friday, 8 to 4” becomes fairly important information. We looked at what each company actually publishes about emergency and after-hours service rather than assuming every plumber who answers the phone is available 24/7.

Then there is the whole question of “local.” To me, local does not necessarily mean the company has an office three miles from my house. It means they actually work in my town, will come out for the job and know the area. A great plumber in the next town over is still pretty local when there is water coming through the ceiling.

I also want to know who is behind the company. New Jersey plumbing businesses operate under a Master Plumber license held by a named individual. That does not tell you whether someone will do beautiful work or show up exactly at 8:03 a.m. It does give you something concrete to check instead of relying on the words “licensed and insured” on a website.

That is why we included the license information businesses publish and checked it against the state record when we could. We also show when information is not published or when we could not match it. That is not a judgment on the company. It is simply the information we were able to check.

You will also see specialties, location information and published emergency service in the guide below. The idea is not to tell you there is one “best plumber” for every homeowner in Belle Mead, Skillman and Montgomery Township. There usually isn’t. The best call depends on whether you have a leaking pipe, a dead water heater, a clogged sewer line or a much bigger project on your hands.

So start with the problem you actually need solved. Then use the guide below to narrow down who serves your area, who handles that type of work and what we were able to check about the business behind the name. That feels a lot more useful to me than scrolling through 14 nearly identical websites that all promise “quality service.”

The Guide: Plumbers in Belle Mead, Skillman and Montgomery Township, NJ

Jump to the table ↓

New Jersey licenses plumbing to a named person. Every company that repairs a burst pipe, replaces a water heater or reworks a bathroom in this state works under a Master Plumber license held by an individual, registered with the State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers, and searchable by anyone in about ninety seconds.

The state also requires that the number appear in the company’s advertising. Under N.J.A.C. 13:32-3.1(c), all advertising by a licensed master plumber must carry the plumber’s name, the New Jersey business address, and the words “Plumbing license number” or “Plumbing Lic. #” followed by the number.

Ten of the fifteen companies here publish it, and five publish nothing at all. This guide reports, for every company, exactly what it publishes about its own license and exactly what the state record returns when that number is run. Where a company publishes nothing, the guide says that too — and says nothing further about it.

How We Selected These Plumbers

This guide covers three municipalities: Montgomery Township (Belle Mead, Skillman, Blawenburg), Rocky Hill and Millstone Borough. Montgomery Township contains the postal villages of Belle Mead, Skillman and Blawenburg, which is why most addresses on this page carry one of those names rather than the township’s.

A company appears here if it performs residential plumbing work for homeowners in those towns, and if it says so itself — by naming one of them on its own website, or by holding a state registration at an address inside one of them.

One note on the word Millstone, because it sends people forty miles in the wrong direction. Millstone Borough is a four-hundred-person village on the Millstone River in Somerset County, next to Montgomery. New Jersey also has a Millstone Township in Monmouth County, near Clarksburg, with its own construction office and its own contractors. They are not the same place and they share no services. Every company and every municipal record on this page was checked against which Millstone it meant.

The license is not a condition of entry. It is the first column, and a blank in it is not a mark against a company. Every qualifying company is listed, and the column reports what each one publishes and what the state record returns.

Fourteen companies meet the test. They are listed alphabetically. A drain and septic specialist that works these towns is listed separately below, for the reason explained there.

What This Market Looks Like

Two things about plumbing in Montgomery Township are worth knowing before the table.

The oldest shops here do not have websites. Four of the nine plumbing companies with premises inside this market — on Sleepy Hollow Lane, on Maple Street, on Opossum Road, on Bridgepoint Road — publish no website, no license number and no service-area page. They are listed in the phone book, they have been working these roads for decades, and there is nothing online to read about them. Their rows say so plainly. A blank in the license column on this page is far more often a company that never built a website than a company with anything to hide.

Two of the three towns have no construction office of their own. Rocky Hill and Millstone are too small to run one. Both are inspected by the State of New Jersey under a shared-services arrangement, and the regional inspector works out of the Rocky Hill Municipal Building. Montgomery Township runs its own department at 100 Community Drive. This matters if you are pulling a permit, and the offices are listed at the bottom of this page.

About This Guide

This guide is produced by Garden State Circle. Companies appear here because they meet the criterion described above — they perform residential plumbing work for homeowners in the towns this guide covers. That is a test, not a judgment, and it is the only route onto this page. No company can pay to be included in this guide, to be listed higher, or to change what the comparison table says about it. Companies are listed alphabetically, and every detail in the table was verified against each company’s own website and against the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs licensee record in September 2026.

Everything under the heading that begins this guide is governed by the rules above, on every guide we publish. Where a sponsor’s message appears above that heading, it is paid for and labelled, and it buys nothing in the guide. Garden State Circle is supported by the businesses that participate in it. Participation pays for our ongoing work: keeping a business’s entry accurate, re-checking its record, and publishing a page of its own details that the business maintains. There is no paid placement in this guide. Participation does not buy a place here, a position here, or anything the comparison table says. Every detail here was verified on the date shown on this page.

Garden State Circle is published in New Jersey by Tiffany and Jake Slowinski and covers Montgomery Township (Belle Mead, Skillman, Blawenburg), Rocky Hill and Millstone Borough. Contact the publisher at jake@gardenstatecircle.com. How every guide is made, in one place: how every guide is made.

How to Read the License Column

New Jersey issues more than one kind of plumbing license, and they are not interchangeable.

Master Plumber is the contractor’s license. A master plumber may hold out to the public, take contracts and qualify a business. Every plumbing company operating lawfully in New Jersey works under one, held by a named individual.

Journeyman Plumber is a license to do the work, not to sell it. A journeyman plumber is genuinely licensed by the state and is not qualified to contract in their own name. A company described only as employing “licensed plumbers” has not told you which of the two it means.

The column reports state licensure on the date shown, and nothing else. It is not a rating, not a measure of quality, and not a statement about insurance. A number prints only where a single state record matches; where more than one person shares a name, the guide says so and prints no number.

Three phrases appear in the column and each means one thing. Not published means we read the company’s website and the fact is not on it. Not found by us means we searched the state record and did not find a match. Neither is a statement about the company.

The Companies

Autumn Somerset Plumbing & Heating, LLC

Autumn Somerset has worked Montgomery Township and the towns around it since 1985. It publishes the license the way the state rule describes it — the holder and the number together: Matthew Peterson, Plumbing Lic.#6625. The state record returns that license as active in his name at a Belle Mead address. The company gives a Rocky Hill mailing address and says it works throughout New Jersey. No emergency hours are published.

David G. Lanning Inc.

David G. Lanning has been in Skillman since 1976, at 235 Route 518, and covers Hunterdon, Mercer and Somerset counties with plumbing, heating and cooling work. The site states that the company has a licensed master plumber available and publishes two license numbers rather than one; the second returns an active Master Plumber license in the state record, held at a Hopewell address. The company does not name the holder. No emergency hours are published.

Dean Plumbing & Heating

Dean Plumbing works from 308 Ridge Road in Dayton and names Montgomery among the towns it covers, along with South Brunswick, Princeton, Kendall Park and the Windsors. It publishes Licensed: #12681; the number returns an active Master Plumber license in the state record, held at a Monmouth Junction address. The company does not name the holder. It advertises 24/7 emergency service and has been in business since 1978.

Drake’s Plumbing works from Maple Street in Belle Mead and handles residential plumbing and heating. The company publishes no website and no license number, and no state record has been matched to it.

J. Johnson Plumbing & Heating

J. Johnson Plumbing works from Bridgepoint Road in Belle Mead and handles residential plumbing and heating. The company publishes no website and no license number, and no state record has been matched to it. A word of caution on searching for it: a domain that once carried this company’s name now routes to a national call-referral service, whose own page states that it is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with the previous owner of the domain. It is not the company’s website. We have not linked it here.

Kellinger Plumbing & Heating LLC

Kellinger Plumbing works from Sleepy Hollow Lane in Belle Mead, doing residential plumbing and heating. The company publishes no website and no license number, and no state record has been matched to it.

Maldarelli Plumbing & Heating

Maldarelli Plumbing works from Opossum Road in Skillman on residential plumbing and heating. The company publishes no website and no license number, and no state record has been matched to it.

Michael J. Messick Plumbing & Heating

It is family-operated and lists emergency service as available.

N.C. Jefferson Plumbing, Heating & A/C

N.C. Jefferson is at 29 Airpark Road in Princeton and has been family-run since 1947. Its service area names Belle Mead, Skillman and Rocky Hill alongside Princeton, Hopewell, Kingston, Hillsborough and the Windsors. It publishes N.J. License #7084 and names Bruce Jefferson as its master plumber; the number resolves in the state record to Bruce W. Jefferson, active, at a Princeton address. It advertises 24/7 emergency service.

Redding’s Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning

Redding’s is at 759 State Road in Princeton and has been in business since 1920, covering Mercer, Somerset, Hunterdon and Middlesex counties. Robert Griggs Plumbing & Heating

Robert Griggs Plumbing is at 2486 Route 206 in Belle Mead and works Princeton, Edison, New Brunswick and the towns between. It publishes NJ Master Plumbing License #11621 on its own site; the number resolves in the state record to Robert L Griggs Jr, active, at a Hillsborough address — the adjoining township. No emergency hours are published.

Sherman Smith Plumbing

Sherman Smith Plumbing is at 2103 US Highway 206 in Belle Mead and has been locally owned since 2008. It publishes NJ Plumbing Lic #08327 on its own site; the number returns an active Master Plumber license in the state record. The company does not name the holder, and the guide prints no name where the company has not published one. Same-day appointments are advertised; no emergency hours are published.

Stellitano Home Services

Stellitano works from 620 Brunswick Pike in Lambertville and names Skillman among the seventeen New Jersey towns on its service page, along with Hillsborough, Princeton, Hopewell and Somerville. It publishes its license in the full state format — Plumbing Master #36BI01232900 — which resolves in the state record to Jarod M Machinga, active, at a Hopewell address. It advertises 24/7 emergency support and has been in business since 1995.

Tindall & Ranson Plumbing & Heating

Tindall & Ranson works out of Princeton and names Montgomery Township and Belle Mead on its service-area page, along with Princeton, Hopewell, Pennington, Plainsboro, Cranbury and the Windsors. Emergency repairs are listed among its services. No license number appears on the pages we read, and the guide prints none.

Drain and Septic Work

Not every plumbing job needs a licensed master plumber. Clearing a drain, pumping a septic tank and jetting a line are not licensed plumbing work in New Jersey, and the businesses that do them are not required to hold a Master Plumber license — which is why they are listed here rather than in the table above. It is not a mark against them. It is a different job.

This distinction matters more here than in most of the towns we cover, because a large share of Montgomery Township is not on public sewer. If your problem is a slow drain or a full tank, this is who does that work. If your problem is a burst pipe, a water heater or anything that will need a permit, that is licensed plumbing and the table above is the list.

Common Questions

What is the difference between a master plumber and a journeyman plumber in New Jersey?
A master plumber holds the contractor’s license: they may advertise to the public, take contracts and qualify a business. A journeyman plumber is licensed to perform plumbing work but not to contract in their own name. Both are licensed by the state. A company that describes its people only as “licensed plumbers” has not said which it means.

Is a plumbing company required to publish its license number?
Yes. N.J.A.C. 13:32-3.1 requires the licensed master plumber’s name, New Jersey business address and license number to appear in all advertising, on business correspondence and invoices, and on both sides of every commercial vehicle used in the work. The rule also makes anyone whose name or number appears in an advertisement personally responsible for its content.

Half these companies have no website. Should that worry me?
No. Four of the nine plumbing companies with premises inside Montgomery Township publish nothing online at all — no site, no service-area page, no license number. Several have been at the same address for decades. In a market like this one, an empty license column usually means a shop that never built a website, and the way to fill it is to ask. Any company will give you its master plumber’s license number if you ask for it, and you can check it yourself against the state register in about a minute.

What does it mean when a plumber’s advertising says part of the work may be performed by subcontractors?
It means the state required them to say it. Under N.J.A.C. 13:32-3.1(e), a plumbing contractor who subcontracts out more than a third of a year’s work must state in all advertising: “A substantial part of the work which we undertake may be performed by independent licensed plumbing subcontractors.” The absence of that sentence is not evidence of anything — a company may simply be under the threshold — but where it appears, it is there because the rule put it there.

Who inspects plumbing work in these towns?
It depends which town. Montgomery Township runs its own construction department at 100 Community Drive in Skillman. Rocky Hill and Millstone do not have one; both are inspected by the State of New Jersey under a shared-services arrangement, with the regional inspector based at the Rocky Hill Municipal Building. All three are listed below.

Who Governs Plumbing Work in Montgomery Township, Rocky Hill and Millstone Borough, NJ

Two state agencies sit behind residential plumbing work in New Jersey. The Division of Consumer Affairs, through the State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers, issues and renews the license in this guide’s table; a master plumber license is renewed every two years. The Department of Community Affairs, Division of Codes and Standards administers the Uniform Construction Code, whose plumbing subcode governs the work itself. New Jersey adopted the 2024 editions of the model codes on August 17, 2026, according to the Division’s current codes table.

Permits and inspections are normally municipal. In two of these three towns they are not — the boroughs are too small to run a construction office, and the Department of Community Affairs inspects them directly.

Montgomery Township’s Construction Official is also its Plumbing Subcode Official. Michael Krupsky holds both roles, which means in Montgomery the person who issues the permit is the person responsible for the plumbing subcode. New Jersey requires a plumbing subcode official to hold a Master Plumber license, so this is the ordinary arrangement in a township this size rather than an unusual one. Rocky Hill and Millstone share the same state inspector, working out of the Rocky Hill Municipal Building on Tuesday afternoons — if you live in either borough, that is where a plumbing permit is issued, and the window is narrow.

Fee schedules are adopted by ordinance and change. Requirements are interpreted by the town’s own construction office, or by the state office that serves it, not by us. We publish what each municipality published, with the date we checked it — confirm before you rely on it.

Corrections

Things change. A license is renewed under a different holder, a company moves, a phone number is retired, a business closes or opens a new office.

If anything on this page is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Email admin@gardenstatecircle.com. Corrections are made whether or not a business participates in Garden State Circle, and there is no charge for one.

If your plumbing company is not on this page and you believe it should be, email the same address. The test is the one described at the top: you perform residential plumbing work for homeowners in Montgomery Township, Rocky Hill or Millstone, and you say so on your own website or hold a state registration at an address in one of those towns.
