Finding a Dentist in New Jersey: What I’d Actually Want to Know Before I Book

By Tiffany Slowinski

Jump to the table ↓

Finding a new dentist should not be this annoying.

You ask a friend. You Google. You end up staring at 17 practices that all have somewhere between 4.7 and 5 stars, beautiful photos of extremely white teeth and websites promising some version of “gentle, comprehensive care.”

Great. Which one am I actually supposed to call?

For something this personal, I want more than a star rating. I want to know who I am seeing, whether I can get an appointment without rearranging my entire life and whether the dentist is going to explain what is happening before handing me a treatment plan that costs more than my first car.

I also want to like them.

That matters.

A dentist is one of those people you hopefully stay with for years. I do not want to reintroduce myself every six months or wonder whether I am ever going to see the same person twice. If I choose a practice because I read about a specific dentist, I want to know if that is actually the person I am going to see.

Then there is the very practical stuff.

Can I get an appointment when I need one? Are there early morning, evening or Saturday appointments? What happens if something hurts? Can I book online, or am I entering a three-day game of phone tag?

A gorgeous office is not especially useful to me if I cannot get there without canceling half my workday.

I also want to know what happens if I need more than a cleaning.

Some practices handle a wide range of treatment in-house. Others refer out for root canals, oral surgery, implants, orthodontics or more complicated cases. Neither is automatically better. I just want to know before I need something.

And yes, I care about how my teeth look too.

I can want healthy teeth and still be interested in whitening, straightening something that has bothered me for years or fixing a chipped tooth I stare at in every photo. If cosmetic dentistry matters to you, ask what the dentist actually does regularly instead of assuming every office that uses the phrase “cosmetic dentistry” offers the same thing.

The biggest thing for me is communication.

I do not need a dental degree. I do need to understand what you see, what you recommend, why you recommend it and what happens if I do nothing right now.

If there are multiple options, tell me. If one costs significantly more, tell me why. If something can wait six months, I want to know that too.

Trust gets a lot harder when you are lying backward under a bright light while someone throws around words you do not understand and you are nodding because there are four instruments in your mouth.

I want a dentist who explains things like a normal person.

I would also pay attention to treatment philosophy.

If a dentist recommends something significant, I want to understand what needs attention now and what can be watched. I want to know my options. For something expensive or irreversible, I am completely comfortable asking questions or getting another opinion.

That is not being difficult.

Those are my teeth.

Then there is the money.

Dental insurance is confusing enough. Before significant treatment, I want the office to explain what they expect it to cost, what they expect insurance to cover and what I am responsible for. If the practice is out of network, tell me. If payment plans exist, tell me. If there are different treatment options at different price points, I want to know that too.

Nobody enjoys talking about money while wearing a paper bib.

Talk about it anyway.

And if you hate going to the dentist, you are hardly alone.

Some people had a terrible experience years ago. Some hate needles. Some have sensitive teeth. Some are embarrassed because it has been way too long since their last cleaning.

A perfectly fair question is: How do you handle nervous patients?

Pay attention to the answer.

You are not looking for someone to promise that nothing will ever be uncomfortable. You are looking for an office that listens when you tell them what makes you anxious and does not make you feel ridiculous for saying it.

At the end of the day, you can research a dentist for three hours online and still learn more in 20 minutes sitting in the chair.

How does the staff treat you? Does the dentist listen before talking? Do you feel rushed? Are your questions welcomed or tolerated? Do you leave understanding what happened and what comes next?

That is the stuff that makes you stay.

It is also why we built these guides.

Garden State Circle checks the public information available on each practice, including active dental licenses, who the practice actually names as its dentists, whether it appears to be independently owned or part of a larger group when that information is published, how it handles new patients and whether it offers evening or weekend hours.

We are not telling you which dentist is “the best.”

I do not think a spreadsheet can tell you that.

The dentist I love may not be the dentist you love. You may care deeply about Saturday appointments. I may care about seeing the same person every time. Someone else may want a practice that can handle the whole family or offers a specific service.

What we can do is make it much easier to compare them.

Because choosing a dentist should start with better information than whoever happened to show up first on Google.

You do not need to find the fanciest dentist.

You need to find the dentist you will actually go back to.

The Guide: Dentists in Warren, Watchung and Green Brook, NJ

New Jersey licenses dentists as individuals, not as practices. The state keeps a public register of every dentist it has licensed, with a number and a current status, and anyone can search it for free. It takes about a minute, and the steps are at the bottom of this page.

This guide lists every general dental practice we could find with an office in Warren, Watchung or Green Brook, names the dentists each practice names on its own website, and shows what the state register said about each of those names on the day we checked. It also records who owns each practice and how each one takes a new patient, in each practice’s own words. Basking Ridge and Bernardsville have their own guide, and so do Bridgewater and Somerville; this one covers the three towns along the Watchung ridge, all in Somerset County.

How We Selected These Practices

A practice appears here if it meets three tests. It is a general dental practice, according to its own website. It has an office you can walk into in Warren, Watchung or Green Brook, stated on its own website or on the business profile it maintains on Google. And at least one dentist it names holds a New Jersey dental license that the state register showed as Active on September 4, 2026.

That is deliberately a low bar, and it admits nearly everyone. Specialists — orthodontists, periodontists, endodontists, prosthodontists, oral surgeons and pediatric dentists — are not on this list, because each of those is its own category with its own guide. These three towns hold a real cluster of them, especially along Mt. Bethel Road in Warren, and one of the questions at the bottom of this page names them so you know why they are missing. A practice that failed one of the three tests is not deleted: it sits in a labelled section below the main list with its address and the reason, so you can see who we could not check rather than wonder why a name is missing.

Twenty-one practices meet the tests — twelve in Warren, five in Watchung and four in Green Brook. They are listed alphabetically. One more is listed below the table with the reason it could not be checked the same way. If any of that has changed, the correction address at the bottom of this page is for exactly that.

About This Guide

This guide is produced by Garden State Circle. Practices appear here because they meet the criteria described above — a general dental practice with an office in Warren, Watchung or Green Brook and at least one named dentist whose New Jersey license the state register showed as Active. That is a test, not a judgment, and it is the only route onto this page. No practice can pay to be included in this guide, to be listed higher, or to change what the comparison table says about it. Practices are listed alphabetically, and every detail in the table was verified against each practice’s own website and against the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs licensee register in September 2026.

Everything under the heading that begins this guide is governed by the rules above, on every guide we publish. Where a sponsor’s message appears above that heading, it is paid for and labelled, and it buys nothing in the guide. Garden State Circle is supported by the businesses that participate in it. Participation pays for our ongoing work: keeping a business’s entry accurate, re-checking its record, and publishing a page of its own details that the business maintains. There is no paid placement in this guide. Participation does not buy a place here, a position here, or anything the comparison table says. Nothing on this page is medical advice. Every treatment described here carries risks that depend on your own health and history, and the person to discuss them with is a licensed provider who has examined you.

Garden State Circle is published in New Jersey by Tiffany and Jake Slowinski and covers Warren, Watchung and Green Brook. Contact the publisher at jake@gardenstatecircle.com. How every guide is made, in one place: how every guide is made.

What This Guide Cannot Tell You

Two things, and they are worth stating plainly. The state register tells us that a person holds a New Jersey dental license and what its status was on the day we looked. It does not tell us where that person practises, how many days a week they are in a given office, or whether they are the dentist you will actually see. For that, the practice’s own website is the source, and the table shows what each one publishes.

The second limit is ownership. Of the twenty-one practices in this guide, only three say on their own pages who owns them — two that carry a group’s name and one that calls itself locally owned. The other eighteen publish nothing either way, and the table says so rather than guessing.

What the Register Statuses Mean

Every dentist named in the table showed as Active on the register, with one exception the table states: one practice names a dentist we could not find on the register under the name it publishes, and the cell says which. A license marked Inactive or Retired is a status the licensee can elect and the board records; a license marked Expired has passed its renewal date. None of those statuses says anything about the practice as a whole, and none of them means a person is practising without a license — it is a reason to ask which dentist you will see. This guide prints what the register showed on the date at the top of the table, and nothing more.

The Practices, Compared

Listed alphabetically. The dentists column shows names exactly as each practice writes them on its own website; where a practice has no website we could read, the name comes from the business profile it maintains on Google or from the state register itself, and the cell and the entry say so. The license column shows the status the New Jersey register returned for each name on the date in the header. Ownership and new-patients restate what each practice publishes, and “Not published” means the site says nothing either way. Hours are as published, with evening and Saturday times called out because they are what most people are looking for.

Checked against the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs Dentistry licensee search.

License statuses were read from the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs license verification register on September 4, 2026, by searching each name as a person under the profession Dentistry and the license type Dentist. Practice details were verified against each practice’s own website the same day. Where the table reads “Not found by us,” the practice has no website we could read; that is a limit of our check, not a statement about the practice.

A Note on Reading the Table

Names are printed exactly as each practice writes them, which is why some carry a degree and some do not. Where a practice’s own pages and the register write a name differently, the entry says so: the register writes Geraldine K. Ricciardi where the practice writes Gerri, Michelle Sabater Weddle where the practice writes Michelle Weddle, and Peter J. Deschenes, Jr. where the sign writes Peter J. Deschenes. Where the register shows a status other than Active against a name, or no record under the published name, the license cell says which name and what it showed, dated, and nothing else.

Ownership is a fact, not a grade. Independently owned means the practice says so on its own site; Part of a group means the practice’s own site, or the group’s own location list, says so. Not published means the site says nothing either way — and in these towns, eighteen of the twenty-one sites say nothing either way. A practice named after its dentist, or organised as an LLC or LLP, is not thereby “independently owned” in this table; the practice has to say it.

The Practices

All Dental Arts Warren, Warren

All Dental Arts Warren practises at 65 Mountain Boulevard, in the same professional building that houses an oral surgery office. Its website could not be read from two different browsers when we checked, so the dentist’s name comes from the business profile the practice maintains on Google, which names Dr. Popescu; the state register’s matching record is Iulia Popescu, DDS, the only dentist of that surname it lists. With no site to read, the new-patient path and hours read Not found by us. The register showed Iulia Popescu as Active on September 4, 2026.

Andrew P. Galante, DMD, MAGD, Warren

Andrew P. Galante, DMD, MAGD, practises at 31-D Mountain Boulevard and describes a full scope of general and cosmetic dentistry, with an in-house membership plan for patients without dental insurance. Published hours run to 7 pm on Monday and include Saturday mornings, 8 am to 1 pm, every other week. The register showed Andrew P. Galante as Active on September 4, 2026.

Beacon Hill Dental, Watchung

Beacon Hill Dental, at 500 Phillip Lane in Watchung, names Anthony Zamarra, DMD, who founded the practice, and Ariel Pinchasov, DMD. Its site takes new patients through an appointment request, and published hours include Tuesday to 7 pm and Saturday 8 am to 2 pm on alternating weeks. The register showed both Anthony R. Zamarra and Ariel Pinchasov as Active on September 4, 2026.

Bridgewater-Greenbrook Dental, LLP, Green Brook

Bridgewater-Greenbrook Dental, LLP, at 257 Route 22 East, Suite C, pairs a general dentist, Dr. Joseph Pinsker, DMD, with a periodontist, Dr. Jay Bloom, DDS, who has been a partner at the office since it opened in 2005 — so gum treatment and implant placement happen in the same office as general care. Published hours run to 7 pm every weekday, with no Saturday hours. The register showed both Jay R. Bloom and Joseph Pinsker as Active on September 4, 2026.

Children’s Dental Specialists & Adult Dentistry, Warren

Children’s Dental Specialists & Adult Dentistry, at 28 Mountain Boulevard, is a pediatric-specialist practice that also treats adults, which is why it is in this table rather than only in the specialist list below: its own name and pages offer adult general dentistry, and its dentists include Dr. Dayna Marquina, who describes herself as a general dentist, alongside board-certified pediatric dentists Dr. Christina Mazzone, who opened the Warren and Chester offices in 2006, and Dr. Danielle Lockwood, orthodontist Dr. Simona Lekht, and Dr. Taylor Harper. On September 4, 2026, the register showed Christina Mazzone, Taylor G. Harper, Simona Lekht and Dayna Marquina as Active; it returned no dentist under the name Danielle Lockwood, and the practice also has a Pennsylvania office, which this register does not cover. New patients request an appointment online, and Warren hours run to 6 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Cornerstone Dental, Green Brook

Cornerstone Dental — in full, Cornerstone Dental – Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry — opened its Green Brook office at 314 US Highway 22 West, Suite D, as the second location of a practice based in Hillsborough. It names John D. Beckwith, DMD, and Arlene O’Brien, DMD, posts downloadable new-patient forms, and publishes hours to 8 pm on Monday and Tuesday, plus Saturday 8 am to 2 pm. The register showed both John D. Beckwith and Arlene O’Brien as Active on September 4, 2026.

Dental365 Watchung, Watchung

Dental365 Watchung, at 1640 Route 22, Suite 4, is part of the Dental365 group by its own name and pages, and its location page names Dr. Rami Assafin, DDS, and Dr. Peter J. Kalibat, DDS. New patients book online, and published hours include Tuesday to 8 pm and Saturday 8 am to 4 pm. The register showed both Rami Assafin and Peter J. Kalibat as Active on September 4, 2026.

Family Dental Associates of Warren, Warren

Family Dental Associates of Warren, at 163 Washington Valley Road, Suite 106, names Claudia L. Kandou, DMD, and Victor C. Wang, DMD, and describes family general and cosmetic dentistry with an emphasis on prevention and regular maintenance. New patients start with an appointment request, and published hours run 9 am to 6 pm Monday through Thursday, to 2 pm Friday, with Saturday 8:30 am to 1 pm when available. The register showed both Claudia L. Kandou and Victor C. Wang as Active on September 4, 2026.

Gerri Ricciardi, DMD, Watchung

Gerri Ricciardi, DMD, practises at 775 Mountain Boulevard, Suite 101, in Watchung. We could find no website of the practice’s own; the name comes from the business profile it maintains on Google, and the register’s matching record — Geraldine K. Ricciardi, Watchung — showed Active on September 4, 2026. With no site to read, the new-patient path and hours read Not found by us.

Great Smiles of New Jersey, Watchung

Great Smiles of New Jersey, at 10 Shawnee Drive, Suite A5, is the practice of Dr. Michelle Weddle, DDS, and its pages cover general and cosmetic dentistry along with airway and sleep-focused dentistry and TMJ treatment. New patients book online through the site’s scheduling links, and published hours run to 6 pm Wednesday and Thursday, with no Saturday hours. The register showed Michelle Sabater Weddle as Active on September 4, 2026.

Green Brook Family Dentalcare, Green Brook

Green Brook Family Dentalcare, at 933 North Washington Avenue, has operated since 1987 under its founder, Dr. Dennis Petrini, and names general dentists Dr. John Dibling and Dr. Rabih Al Faytarouni alongside two specialists on staff — a periodontist, Dr. Peter Tsambazis, and an orthodontist, Dr. Kathleen M. Hargaden — so specialty referrals can stay in the building. The site lists a new-patient exam among its services but does not publish a booking path, and hours run weekdays to 6 pm, Friday to 5, with Saturday 9 am to 2 pm. On September 4, 2026, the register showed all five named dentists — Dennis Petrini, John B. Dibling, Rabih Al Faytarouni, Peter D. Tsambazis and Kathleen M. Hargaden — as Active.

Oakwell Dental, Warren

Oakwell Dental, at 152 Liberty Corner Road, says on its own site that it is “locally owned, community rooted, and deeply invested in the families we serve.” It names Dr. Arash Baseri and Dr. Azita Ebrahimzadeh, takes new patients through online booking and a request form, and publishes Wednesday hours to 7 pm plus one Saturday a month, 8 am to 1 pm. The register showed both Arash Baseri and Azita Ebrahimzadeh as Active on September 4, 2026.

Peter J. Deschenes, DDS, Warren

Peter J. Deschenes, DDS, practises general dentistry at 163 Washington Valley Road, Suite 102 — the same building as Family Dental Associates of Warren, one suite over. His site publishes weekday hours of 9 am to 5 pm, with no evening or Saturday hours, and does not describe how a new patient starts beyond the phone number. The register showed Peter J. Deschenes, Jr., as Active on September 4, 2026.

Premier Dental Group, Green Brook

Premier Dental Group practises at 326 US Highway 22, Suite 326, in Green Brook. We could find no website for the practice, and its Google profile names no dentist; the register supplies the name — Yu Huang, DDS, of Green Brook, the only dentist of that name the register lists there, shown as Active on September 4, 2026. With no site to read, the new-patient path and hours read Not found by us.

Smile! Dental Boutique – Smile Warren, Warren

Smile! Dental Boutique’s Warren office, at 34 Mountain Boulevard, Building A, Suite 202, is the second location of the practice whose Bedminster office appears in our Basking Ridge and Bernardsville guide; both offices name the same two dentists, Dr. Huma Mirza and Dr. Miriam Fanouse. New patients schedule online, and the site does not publish day-by-day hours for the Warren office. The register showed both Huma Mirza and Miriam Fanouse as Active on September 4, 2026.

Soft Care Dental Group, Warren

Soft Care Dental Group, at 31V Mountain Boulevard, names Dr. Ritu Dureja, DDS, and Dr. Parnika Bhagat, DDS, and pairs general and cosmetic dentistry with implant and sleep-apnea services. New patients book online, and published hours run to 6 pm Monday and Wednesday, with Saturday by appointment only. The register showed both Ritu Dureja and Parnika Bhagat as Active on September 4, 2026.

The Star Dental Group, Warren

The Star Dental Group, at 161 Washington Valley Road, Suite 202, is the practice of Dr. William Scott, DMD, offering comprehensive, cosmetic and implant dentistry along with Invisalign. New patients schedule online, and published hours run to 5:30 pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, to 1 pm Friday, with Saturday by appointment. The register showed William Scott, Warren, as Active on September 4, 2026.

Warren Dental Design, Warren

Warren Dental Design, at 1 Mountain Boulevard, calls itself a nineteen-year Warren tradition and names Oscar Grob, DMD, and Betty Rabah, DMD. New patients book online through the site’s scheduling system, which carries a dedicated new-patient option; the site does not publish day-by-day hours. The register showed both Oscar F. Grob and Betty Rabah as Active on September 4, 2026.

Warren Family Dental – A Dental365 Company, Warren

Warren Family Dental, at 161 Washington Valley Road, Suite 208, carries “A Dental365 Company” in its own name, and its location page names Dr. Amanda Hochstein, whose page lists periodontics, alongside general dentists Dr. Sari Netsky and Dr. Maral Regas. The page says new patients are always welcome and takes bookings online; published hours include Tuesday to 7 pm and Saturday 8 am to 2 pm. The register showed all three — Amanda Hochstein, Sari A. Netsky and Maral Regas — as Active on September 4, 2026. The Star Dental Group practises in the same building, three suites away.

Warren Smile Center, Warren

Warren Smile Center, at 10 Mountain Boulevard, Suite A-1, is the practice of Dr. Igor Kostanyan, DDS, covering restorative, cosmetic and emergency care. New patients book online, and published hours run 9 am to 6 pm on weekdays with Saturday 9 am to 2 pm. The register showed Igor Kostanyan as Active on September 4, 2026.

Watchung Avenue Dental LLC, Watchung

Watchung Avenue Dental LLC, at 445 Watchung Avenue, is the practice of Dr. Lori Liu, DMD, who founded it and describes family, cosmetic and emergency dentistry with Invisalign and implant training. The site does not publish office hours or a new-patient path beyond the phone number and an email address. The register showed Lori Liu, Watchung, as Active on September 4, 2026.

Listed in the Market, Not Checked the Same Way

One practice is listed here so that a name you were given is not simply missing.

David L. Castellano, DMD, Warren

Directory listings place the office of David L. Castellano, DMD, at 31 Mountain Boulevard, Suite S — the same professional building as two practices in the table. His website would not load from either of two browsers when we checked, and we could find no business profile for the office in Google’s local results, so there is no page of the practice’s own we could read for hours, staff or address. The register itself showed David L. Castellano, Warren, as Active on September 4, 2026 — the license is not in question; the office details are what we could not check.

Common Questions

How do I check a dentist’s license in Warren, Watchung or Green Brook, NJ?

Go to the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs license verification site, choose the person search rather than the business search, set the profession to Dentistry and the license type to Dentist, and enter the last name. The result shows the name, the license number, and the current status. The city shown is the licensee’s address of record, which is often a home address, so do not read it as the office.

What does Inactive, Retired or Expired mean on the New Jersey register?

They are statuses the register records against a license: Inactive and Retired are elected by the licensee and recorded by the board, and Expired means the renewal date has passed. This guide prints what the register showed on the date at the top of the table, next to the name the practice publishes, and makes no claim about why.

Does “Part of a group” mean a practice in Warren or Watchung is worse, or better?

Neither. It means the practice’s own website, or the group’s own list of locations, says the practice belongs to a larger organisation — in this guide, two offices that carry Dental365’s name on their own pages. Some readers want to know that before they book, which is why the column exists. The guide records the fact and makes no judgment about it.

Which dentists in Warren, Watchung and Green Brook have evening or Saturday hours?

As published on their own sites when we checked: Cornerstone Dental in Green Brook is open to 8 pm Monday and Tuesday and Saturday mornings; Dental365 Watchung to 8 pm Tuesday and Saturday 8 am to 4 pm; Bridgewater-Greenbrook Dental to 7 pm every weekday; Warren Family Dental to 7 pm Tuesday with Saturday mornings; Beacon Hill Dental to 7 pm Tuesday with alternating Saturdays; Andrew P. Galante to 7 pm Monday with alternating Saturdays; Oakwell Dental to 7 pm Wednesday with one Saturday a month; Warren Smile Center and Green Brook Family Dentalcare to 6 pm on weekdays with Saturday mornings; Family Dental Associates of Warren to 6 pm Monday through Thursday with Saturday when available; and Great Smiles of New Jersey, Soft Care Dental Group and Children’s Dental Specialists & Adult Dentistry to 6 pm on some weekdays. Hours change; the table shows what each site said on the date in its header.

Why is a “Green Brook” address not always in Green Brook?

Because the names cross the county line. Greenbrook Road continues south into Middlesex Borough and Dunellen, both in Middlesex County, and several dental offices with Green Brook–sounding addresses or service pages sit on that side of the line, as do offices on South Washington Avenue in Dunellen. This guide covers Green Brook Township in Somerset County, and every practice in the table states an office inside it. The same applies in the other direction: Watchung Avenue is a Watchung borough address here, but the road’s name appears in Plainfield and North Plainfield too.

Why are there no orthodontists, periodontists, pediatric dentists or oral surgeons in this guide?

Because they are different categories with different licenses and permits, and each gets its own guide. These towns hold a real specialist cluster: Warren Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center (58 Mt. Bethel Road) and Riverside Oral Surgery’s Warren office (65 Mountain Boulevard Extension) both appear in Garden State Circle’s oral surgery guides for the neighbouring markets; Warren Hills Orthodontics (9 Mt. Bethel Road) and the orthodontic office of Craig L. Menker, DMD (58 Mt. Bethel Road) practise orthodontics only; and The Smile Express (322 Greenbrook Road, Green Brook) is a pediatric dentistry and orthodontics practice. Children’s Dental Specialists & Adult Dentistry is the one hybrid: its pediatric side belongs in that specialist list, and it appears in the table above only because its own pages also offer adult general dentistry.

Something Out of Date?

This guide is maintained. If anything here is wrong or has changed — a dentist who has joined or left a practice, a license status, an address, a booking method, or whether a practice has closed — tell us and we will check it. Practices listed here are welcome to write in directly, and a practice whose dentist we could not find on the register, or whose site we could not read, is exactly the kind of correction we want.

And if you run a general dental practice with an office in Warren, Watchung or Green Brook that should be on this list, write to us. The criteria are the same for everyone: a general dental practice, an office you can walk into in one of the three towns stated on your own website or Google profile, and at least one named dentist whose New Jersey license shows as Active. If you meet them, you go on.

Something out of date?

This guide is maintained. If anything here is wrong or has changed — a credential, who is at the practice, insurance participation, or whether they are taking new patients — tell us and we will check it. Businesses listed here are welcome to write in directly.
