If you live in Belle Mead or Skillman and your dentist refers you to a periodontist, there is a decent chance the specialist will be in another town.

That is not unusual.

The current Garden State Circle guide did not find a periodontal practice meeting the criteria inside Montgomery Township, Rocky Hill or Millstone. Instead, it lists nearby specialists in Hillsborough, Bridgewater and Bedminster.

This is one of those categories where “near me” really means “reasonable drive to the specialist I need.”

I am fine with that.

A periodontist is a dental specialist focused on periodontal disease, the gums and bone supporting the teeth, and dental implants.

You may be sent to one because of gum disease, gum recession, bone loss, an implant consultation or another issue involving the supporting structures around your teeth.

Most people do not know much about periodontics until suddenly they need it.

That is okay.

You do not need a semester of dental school before the appointment.

You need the specialist to explain your case in plain English.

If your dentist has referred you, bring or send any relevant X-rays and records the specialist requests.

Then ask what the periodontist sees independently.

Is there active disease?

Where?

How much bone support is involved?

Is the gum recession progressing?

What are the treatment options?

What happens if you monitor instead of treating now?

You are trying to understand urgency and trade-offs.

Not simply collect a procedure name.

If a gum graft is being discussed, ask what the goal is in your case.

If an implant is being discussed, ask about the condition of the gum and bone at the site and whether any additional procedures are expected.

If periodontal surgery is recommended, ask about the recovery and the alternatives.

Those answers will vary by patient.

That is why this is medical care, not a menu.

I would also ask whether ongoing periodontal maintenance will be part of the plan after treatment and whether that happens with the periodontist, your regular dentist or both.

People sometimes think the specialist visit is a one-time event.

It may be.

It may also become part of a longer maintenance relationship depending on your diagnosis.

Know what is being proposed.

This guide is especially useful in Montgomery because there is no local office in the main table to default to.

You are comparing nearby specialists anyway.

So use the facts that actually matter.

The New Jersey dental license.

The periodontics specialty permit.

Board certification when published.

Location.

How the practice describes the specialist.

Then call and ask about the issue you actually have.

This guide is useful if you are searching for a periodontist near Skillman NJ, periodontist near Belle Mead, gum specialist Montgomery Township, periodontist Rocky Hill, gum recession treatment, gum graft specialist, periodontal disease treatment, dental implant specialist, bone loss around teeth or periodontal surgery near me.

The closest specialist may not be in Montgomery.

That is fine.

For a specialty appointment, I would much rather drive a little farther and leave understanding exactly what is going on.

The Guide: Periodontists near Belle Mead, Skillman and Montgomery Township, NJ

How We Selected These Periodontists

This guide covers Montgomery Township (Belle Mead, Skillman and Blawenburg), Rocky Hill, Millstone.

A practice is on this page when it has a periodontics office in one of those towns and at least one named dentist whose New Jersey dental license the state register showed as Active on September 23, 2026, and who holds a periodontics specialty permit on that register at that office’s town, primary or branch, or a legacy specialty permit that the practice’s own words tie to periodontics. That is a test, not a judgment. Practices are listed alphabetically.

The practices that met the criteria and are nearest to these towns are listed below, each with the town it is based in.

About This Guide

This guide is produced by Garden State Circle. Practices appear here because they meet the criteria described above — a periodontics office in the towns named above and at least one named dentist with an Active New Jersey dental license and a periodontics specialty permit. That is a test, not a judgment, and it is the only route onto this page. No practice can pay to be included in this guide, to be listed higher, or to change what the comparison table says about it. Practices are listed alphabetically, and every detail in the table was verified against each practice’s own website and the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs licensee register in September 2026.

Everything under the heading that begins this guide is governed by the rules above, on every guide we publish. Where a sponsor’s message appears above that heading, it is paid for and labelled, and it buys nothing in the guide. Garden State Circle is supported by the businesses that participate in it. Participation pays for our ongoing work: keeping a business’s entry accurate, re-checking its record, and publishing a page of its own details that the business maintains. There is no paid placement in this guide. Participation does not buy a place here, a position here, or anything the comparison table says. Where a row carries a verification date, that is when we last checked that business’s record ourselves. A row without one has not been checked recently — that is a fact about our work, not about the business. Nothing on this page is medical advice. Every treatment described here carries risks that depend on your own health and history, and the person to discuss them with is a licensed provider who has examined you.

Common Questions

How do I check a license myself?

The New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs publishes a licensee search under Dentistry. Search by the dentist’s last name. The record shows the license number, the status and the town on file.
