Periodontists in Denville, Mountain Lakes and Boonton Township, NJ
By Tiffany Slowinski
When your dentist tells you to see a periodontist, the temptation is to immediately Google the procedure they mentioned and scare yourself.
I do not recommend this strategy.
Google will always find a way to make a gum graft sound like a Victorian medical event.
Start with the specialist instead.
A periodontist is a dentist with advanced training in periodontal disease, the gums and bone supporting the teeth, and dental implants.
If you are searching for a periodontist in Denville, Mountain Lakes or Boonton Township, the current Garden State Circle guide found one practice meeting the criteria inside the immediate market, in Denville, then lists nearby specialists in Chatham, Morristown and Randolph.
That is a perfectly reasonable local field for a dental specialty.
The bigger question is why you are going.
Maybe your gums bleed or are inflamed.
Maybe your dentist measured deeper periodontal pockets.
Maybe there is recession around one or more teeth.
Maybe you have been told there is bone loss.
Maybe a tooth feels loose.
Maybe you are considering an implant.
These are different problems, even though they all fall under periodontics.
The specialist’s job is to evaluate what is happening and explain the options.
Your job is to ask enough questions that the plan makes sense to you.
I would start with: What exactly are you seeing?
Not the diagnosis alone.
Show me.
If there is bone loss, where?
If there is recession, how much?
If the issue is periodontal disease, how advanced is it?
If treatment is recommended, what are we trying to prevent or improve?
What happens if we wait?
Those questions help turn a scary-sounding specialty appointment into an actual decision.
If surgery enters the conversation, slow it down.
Periodontal procedures can include different types of treatment depending on the problem.
Do not assume a friend’s gum graft, implant or laser treatment tells you anything about what your own case requires.
Ask about the specific procedure being proposed.
Why this procedure?
What are the alternatives?
What does recovery look like?
What should you expect afterward?
How much time should you realistically plan around it?
If you are anxious, say that too.
Periodontal treatment often involves the exact things people already dislike about dentistry.
Needles.
Surgery.
Longer appointments.
The office should know if you are nervous before everyone starts.
For an implant consultation, I would also ask how the periodontist coordinates with the dentist who will restore the implant.
The surgical placement and the tooth that ultimately goes on top of it may involve different providers.
You want to understand the sequence.
The Garden State Circle guide below checks the New Jersey dental license and periodontics specialty permit for every specialist included.
That matters because “implant dentist” and “periodontist” are not interchangeable terms.
Many different dental professionals may provide implant-related care. This particular guide is specifically about dentists who meet New Jersey’s periodontics-specialty criteria.
Use it if you are searching for periodontists Denville NJ, periodontist Mountain Lakes, gum specialist Boonton Township, gum disease treatment, gum recession treatment, gum graft consultation, dental implants Denville, bone loss around teeth, periodontal surgery or a periodontist second opinion near me.
You do not need to walk into the appointment knowing the answer.
You are going because you need the specialist to explain it.
Make them do that part well.

The Guide: Periodontists in Denville and Mountain Lakes, NJ
How We Selected These Periodontists
This guide covers Mountain Lakes, Denville, Boonton Township.
A practice is on this page when it has a periodontics office in one of those towns and at least one named dentist whose New Jersey dental license the state register showed as Active on September 23, 2026, and who holds a periodontics specialty permit on that register at that office’s town, primary or branch, or a legacy specialty permit that the practice’s own words tie to periodontics. That is a test, not a judgment. Practices are listed alphabetically.
Where fewer than six practices in these towns met the criteria, the nearest practices that met the same criteria are listed in a second table, each with the town it is based in.
About This Guide
This guide is produced by Garden State Circle. Practices appear here because they meet the criteria described above — a periodontics office in the towns named above and at least one named dentist with an Active New Jersey dental license and a periodontics specialty permit. That is a test, not a judgment, and it is the only route onto this page. No practice can pay to be included in this guide, to be listed higher, or to change what the comparison table says about it. Practices are listed alphabetically, and every detail in the table was verified against each practice’s own website and the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs licensee register in September 2026.
Everything under the heading that begins this guide is governed by the rules above, on every guide we publish. Where a sponsor’s message appears above that heading, it is paid for and labelled, and it buys nothing in the guide. Garden State Circle is supported by the businesses that participate in it. Participation pays for our ongoing work: keeping a business’s entry accurate, re-checking its record, and publishing a page of its own details that the business maintains. There is no paid placement in this guide. Participation does not buy a place here, a position here, or anything the comparison table says. Where a row carries a verification date, that is when we last checked that business’s record ourselves. A row without one has not been checked recently — that is a fact about our work, not about the business. Nothing on this page is medical advice. Every treatment described here carries risks that depend on your own health and history, and the person to discuss them with is a licensed provider who has examined you.
