The Guide: Roofing Contractors in Somerville, NJ
New Jersey does not license roofers. It registers them — and it registers them to a legal entity, not to the name painted on the truck. Every company in this guide holds a Home Improvement Contractor registration: the number that begins 13VH and runs eight digits after it. It is issued by the Division of Consumer Affairs, it is free to look up, and it takes about ninety seconds.
Somerville is a small borough with a lot of roofers around it. Two companies in this guide work from inside the borough itself, one of them with no website at all; the other twenty come in from Bridgewater, Branchburg, Neshanic Station, Manville, Hillsborough and further out, and every one of them either names Somerville or Somerset County on its own website as somewhere it works, or keeps premises in Somerset County a few miles from the line. Two of the three companies Google leads with when you ask it for a Somerville roofer are not in the table, and the reason is at the foot of the page. The table is not for finding a roofer nearby, which is easy here. It is for telling twenty-two of them apart on the record.
How We Selected These Companies
This guide covers two places: Somerville and Hillsborough.
A company appears here if it installs, repairs or replaces residential roofs for homeowners in Somerville and Hillsborough, publishes roofing as a named service on its own website, and holds a New Jersey Home Improvement Contractor registration that the state records as active. For a company based outside the borough, its own website has to name Somerville or Somerset County as somewhere it works, or its premises have to sit in Somerset County within a few miles of the line. That is the whole test. It is not a test of size, of price, of how long a company has been trading, or of what we think of its work. Twenty-two companies meet it and are in the table. One more holds an active registration and appears in GAF’s contractor directory as a roofer based in Somerville but publishes no website of its own, so the second part of the test cannot be run; it is listed separately below the table rather than left out.
What a company publishes about itself is not the criterion. It is the content. Where a business publishes a registration number, this guide prints it and reports what the state record says about it. Where a business publishes nothing, this guide says so plainly and dates the statement. Neither is a compliment or a complaint. Both are facts about a website on a particular day.

Which of These Companies Is Actually in Somerville
Most homeowners asking whether a roofer is “local” are really asking two questions at once: will they come out for a repair rather than only a full replacement, and will they still be reachable in two years if the flashing leaks. Geography is only part of that, and it is the part that is easiest to check.
On geography, two companies publish premises inside the borough: Levs Construction on West Cliff Street, and, among the companies with no website, Jarow Construction Co., which GAF’s directory lists on Route 22. Bellari Home Remodeling sits on County Line Road in Branchburg — the borough line, with a Somerville ZIP code — and describes itself as headquartered in Somerset County. Bridgewater Township, which wraps around the borough on three sides, supplies eight more: Arctic Roofing & Restoration, Lasting Construction & Improvements, Markey Windows, Doors & More, Mighty Dog Roofing of Bridgewater, Proven Contracting, Tetti Roofing, Tyler Roofing and W.C. Construction, with MD Contracting & Roofing in Martinsville. True North Roofing lists a suite in Branchburg, Padovani Roofing and Construction is in Neshanic Station, OTX Home Remodeling is in Manville, Express Roofing NJ is in Flagtown, and Hammer Exteriors works from an office park in the Somerset section of Franklin Township.
Travelling in from further out: Hunterdon Roofing, Siding & Window Company from Lebanon, Magnolia Home Remodeling Group from Union, Matute Roofing from Wayne, New Jersey Siding & Windows from Randolph and Superior Siding & Windows from Rockaway — each of which names Somerville, or Somerset County, on its own site as somewhere it works.
Two of the Somerville addresses Google shows a homeowner are worth reading carefully, and both are discussed at the foot of this page: one belongs to a company whose registration we could not find under its name, and the other is a suite number in a Division Street office building with no registration we could find at all. A suite address is worth reading for what it is everywhere on this page. Several of the Bridgewater and Branchburg addresses are office suites on Route 22 and Route 202 rather than yards, and the state registers four of the companies in this guide somewhere other than the town they publish. None of that is a mark against anybody. It is why the table carries both towns.

Registered roofing contractor with no website
This company holds an active New Jersey registration and appears in GAF’s contractor directory as a residential roofer based in Somerville. It publishes no website, so what it does is the manufacturer’s description rather than its own, and the service column cannot be filled honestly. It is here so that a homeowner who has been handed the name can find the record.

A Note on Reading the Registration Column
Fourteen of the twenty-two companies in the table publish a New Jersey registration number on their own website. That is the first thing the table shows, and on its own it is only mildly interesting. The second thing it shows is the reason the column is split in two.
The registered name is often not the trading name. Bellari Home Remodeling’s registration is held by Somerville Aluminum Co., Inc. — the name the company traded under for decades, and the only place the word Somerville appears in its record. MD Contracting & Roofing is registered as Michael & Danielle Deegan Contracting LLC. Express Roofing NJ is registered as Express Services LLC. Levs Construction is registered as Lev’s Construction, with an apostrophe. Mighty Dog Roofing of Bridgewater is registered to JDC Property Management Company LLC. Every one of those is lawful, ordinary and invisible to a homeowner typing a company name into the state’s search box — which matches the registered name from its first letters and returns nothing for the name on the estimate.
The registered town is not always the published town. Matute Roofing publishes Wayne and is registered in Towaco. Hammer Exteriors publishes Somerset and is registered in South Plainfield. Proven Contracting publishes Bridgewater and is registered in Livingston, one of the four offices it lists. Mighty Dog Roofing of Bridgewater works from a Bridgewater suite and is registered in Mount Laurel, because the registration belongs to the franchisee. A registered office and an operating office are different things and a company is entitled to both — but a homeowner checking a number has no way to know which one they are looking at.
One company publishes the wrong state’s number. Hunterdon Roofing, Siding & Window Company displays a Pennsylvania registration, PA161132, and not its New Jersey one, 13VH00209500, which is active in Lebanon. A homeowner who checked the published number against New Jersey’s registry would find nothing.
How to check a registration yourself
Search the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs licensee verification for Home Improvement Contractors, using the business search rather than the individual one. You can search by the 13VH number if you have it, or by the beginning of the registered name — the name search matches from the start of the name, so a partial word at the front works and a word from the middle does not. The result gives the registered entity, the number, the status and the town. It is free. The same search also takes a town on its own: entering Somerville as the city returns every home improvement contractor the state has registered here, active and lapsed alike, which is how we found the companies at the foot of this page.
What the registration is, and what it is not
A 13VH registration means the business has registered with the state, carries commercial general liability insurance of at least $500,000 per occurrence, and is subject to the Contractors’ Registration Act. It is not a competency examination and it is not a trade licence — New Jersey does not test roofers the way it tests electricians, plumbers or heating contractors. It tells you a business exists on the record and can be found again. That is worth having and it is not the same as skill.
Manufacturer certification is the closest thing this trade has to a graded credential, which is why it has its own column. GAF Master Elite, Owens Corning Platinum Preferred and CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster are awarded by the shingle manufacturers, carry installation-training and insurance requirements, and are what makes the long manufacturer warranties available in the first place. Where the column says “GAF directory”, we read the tier off GAF’s own public contractor listing; where it says “as published”, we read it off the company’s site and did not check it at the manufacturer.

Arctic Roofing & Restoration describes itself as a Bridgewater-based residential roofing company serving Somerset and Middlesex counties, and publishes roof replacement, emergency repair, storm-damage restoration and insurance-claim work as its services. It publishes no registration number and no street address; GAF’s contractor directory lists it as GAF Certified Plus at a Route 202 suite in Bridgewater, and the state records ARCTIC ROOFING LLC as active in Bridgewater under 13VH13490400.
Bellari Home Remodeling, Branchburg
Bellari Home Remodeling works from County Line Road in Branchburg, on the Somerville line and with a Somerville ZIP code, and describes itself on its own site as headquartered in Somerset County. It publishes roofing, siding and windows among its services; its site says the company was founded in 1950 and was known for many years as Somerville Aluminum. That is still the registered name — SOMERVILLE ALUMINUM CO., INC, active in Branchburg under 13VH01723200 — which is why a search under “Bellari” returns nothing. It describes itself as a ProVia certified installer and a VELUX Certified Installer.
Express Roofing NJ, Flagtown
Express Roofing NJ works from Hall Avenue in Flagtown, in Hillsborough Township, and names Somerville among the towns on its Somerset County page. It publishes roofing only — installation, replacement, repair, flat roofing, asphalt shingles and cedar shake — and no registration number; the state records the business as EXPRESS SERVICES LLC, active in Flagtown under 13VH11749000, and GAF lists it as GAF Certified, in business since 2023.
Hammer Exteriors, Somerset
Hammer Exteriors works from an office park on Campus Drive in the Somerset section of Franklin Township, and its areas-we-serve page names Somerville, Bridgewater, Hillsborough, Franklin Township and Bound Brook under Somerset County, alongside five other counties. It publishes roofing, siding, doors and windows and gutters as its services, describes itself as a GAF Certified Plus contractor with more than twenty years of experience, and says it is licensed and insured without printing a number. The state records HAMMER EXTERIORS LLC as active in South Plainfield — not Somerset — under 13VH10818400.
Hunterdon Roofing, Siding & Window Company, Lebanon
Hunterdon Roofing, Siding & Window Company works from Route 31 in Lebanon, carries a Somerville exterior-contractor page on its own site, and says its crews are regularly working in Bridgewater and Somerville. It describes itself as a third-generation company trading since 1974 and names GAF Master Elite and CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster among its credentials. The number it publishes, PA161132, is a Pennsylvania registration; its New Jersey registration is held by HUNTERDON SIDING & WINDOW COMPANY LLC., active in Lebanon under 13VH00209500, and does not appear on its site.

Lasting Construction & Improvements, Bridgewater
Lasting Construction & Improvements works from East Main Street in Bridgewater, publishes its registration, 13VH05440400, on its site, and lists roofing, siding, gutters, decks and remodeling as its services. Its service-area page names Somerville among roughly forty-five towns, and its site describes “nearly two decades” of work. The state records LASTING CONSTRUCTION & IMPROVEMENTS LLC as active in Bridgewater.
Levs Construction, Somerville
Levs Construction is one of two companies in this guide working from inside the borough, on West Cliff Street. It describes itself as a family-owned, woman-led company that uses its own in-house crews rather than subcontractors, and publishes roofing, siding, decks and gutters as its services. GAF’s directory lists it as GAF Master Elite. Registration 13VH03110400 is active and recorded in Somerville under the name LEV’S CONSTRUCTION — with an apostrophe and no LLC — and is not published on its site.
Magnolia Home Remodeling Group, Union
Magnolia Home Remodeling Group works from Vauxhall Road in Union, publishes its registration, 13VH07755300, in its footer, and carries Somerville pages on its own site for home improvement, general contracting and vinyl siding, describing more than thirty years of work in the town. It names roofing, siding, windows and masonry among its services and lists Alside, CertainTeed, James Hardie and Royal as siding manufacturers it installs. Markey Windows, Doors & More, Bridgewater
Markey Windows, Doors & More works from a showroom on East Main Street in Bridgewater, open seven days, names its founder as Jim Markey, and carries Somerville window-replacement pages on its own site. It publishes windows, doors, siding and roofing as services and describes itself as GAF Certified Residential and American Window and Door Institute certified. Padovani Roofing and Construction, Neshanic Station
Padovani Roofing and Construction works from Neshanic Station, six miles from the borough line in Somerset County, publishes its registration, 13VH01375300, on its site, and describes itself as a full-service roofing and sheet-metal contractor working across Central New Jersey, with siding, gutters, windows, decks, chimneys, skylights and historical renovation among its listed services. Proven Contracting works from Thruway Drive in Bridgewater — one of four New Jersey offices it lists, alongside Livingston, Randolph and Long Valley — carries a Somerville roofing page on its own site, and publishes its registration, 13VH08608400. It names David Curcio as managing partner and Ryan Watson as general manager and co-founder, describes itself as GAF Master Elite, James Hardie Certified and Tamko Diamond, and publishes an EPA Lead-Safe firm number, NAT-F124892-3. Its published services are siding, roofing, windows, doors and masonry, with Alside, ProVia and Marvin as the brands it names. W.C. Construction works from Washington Valley Road in Bridgewater, publishes its registration, 13VH10064100, and names Somerville among the towns it serves. Its site describes the company as GAF Certified and names CertainTeed Master Shingle and ProVia among its credentials, and its siding page offers a fifteen-year warranty on labour. Its own pages give its tenure two ways — “over a decade” on the home page and “over 30 years” on the siding page — so we quote both rather than choose. The state records WC CONSTRUCTION LLC as active in Bridgewater.
Registered, no website
Jarow Construction Co., Somerville
Jarow Construction Co. has no website that we could find; it appears in GAF’s contractor directory at a Route 22 address in Somerville as GAF Master Elite, and the state records JAROW CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, INC. as active in Somerville under 13VH00641200. What it does and where it works is the manufacturer’s description, not the company’s own — which is why it sits here rather than in the table above.
Two Somerville Addresses That Are Not in the Table
Ask Google for a roofer in Somerville and it leads with three companies. One is Levs Construction, which is in the table. The other two publish Somerville addresses and are not, and a homeowner deserves to know why rather than to wonder.
AVEQOR Roofing & Restoration publishes an East Main Street address in the borough. We searched the state’s registrant record under that name in September 2026 and found no registration. The company’s own site says, in its own words, that licences and registrations held by a prior company are not represented as its credentials until they are confirmed for the new entity — which is a careful and correct thing to say, and it is also why the company is not in the table. A registration held under an owner’s name or a different legal entity would not surface in the search we ran, and that is common and lawful. We report our search, never their compliance. The day an active registration is on the record under the name on the estimate, the company goes on the page.
Bentley Roofing Services publishes a suite number in an office building on Division Street and a single page describing around-the-clock emergency repair and full replacement. We found no registration under the Bentley name in Somerville; the state records nine businesses beginning with Bentley across New Jersey, none of them here. The site publishes no number of its own. The same open door applies.
Two other names came out of the state’s own Somerville list and are not in the table for different reasons. Pieros Roofing, a Tecta America company on Tannery Road, is registered here and has roofed in New Jersey since 1973, but its services page describes commercial and industrial work only. And a handful of registered Somerville businesses whose names mention restoration publish no website and no trade, so there was nothing to test.
The Question This Table Cannot Answer Yet
Every company in the table lists roof repair as a service. Very few will actually come out and quote a single slipped shingle or a leaking flashing detail on a house they did not roof, and no website in this trade answers that question honestly, because there is no commercial reason to. It is, for most homeowners most of the time, the only question that matters — and in a borough of older houses on small lots it matters more than most.

Not a trade licence. New Jersey does not examine or license roofers the way it licenses electricians, plumbers and heating contractors. Home improvement contractors register with the state under the Contractors’ Registration Act — the 13VH number — which carries commercial general liability insurance of at least $500,000 per occurrence and a written contract for any job over $500. Every company in the table above holds an active registration, and the table says which of them publish it. Whether a given roofing job falls inside the Act is a question for the state, not for this guide; what we publish is the record we ran.
Is a 13VH number the same as a 19HC number?
No. A number beginning 19HC is a Master HVACR contractor’s licence, held by a named individual, and it covers heating and cooling work. A number beginning 13VH is a business registration and covers home improvement work including roofing, siding and windows. They are different regimes and a company doing both should hold both.
Why does the registered name not match the company name?
Because registration attaches to a legal entity and trading names are free to differ from it. A company that was renamed, that was acquired, that operates a brand distinct from the corporation behind it, or that is a franchise location of a larger operator will show a registered name that looks unfamiliar. Several companies in this guide do. It is normal, and it is why searching the state registry by the name on your estimate often returns nothing at all.
What does GAF Master Elite actually mean?
It is the top tier of GAF’s contractor programme, restricted by the manufacturer to a limited share of roofing contractors in each area, and it requires proof of licensing where applicable, insurance and ongoing installation training. Its practical consequence for a homeowner is access to GAF’s longest workmanship warranties, which cannot be offered by a non-certified installer. Below it sit GAF Certified Plus and GAF Certified, which most of this roster holds. Owens Corning Platinum Preferred and CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster are the equivalent top tiers in those two programmes. All are checkable in the manufacturer’s own contractor directory.
Does it matter that a roofer is based in Somerville rather than travelling in?

Somerville does not call its permit office “Construction” and it does not call it “Code Enforcement” either — the Building Division sits inside the Community Development Department at borough hall on West End Avenue, and Code Enforcement in Somerville is property maintenance under the fire inspector, the opposite of how Bridgewater uses the term. The borough also states a sequence on its own pages: you often need a zoning permit before you can get a construction permit, and zoning is a separate desk at a separate extension in the same department. A homeowner whose roofer says “we’ll pull the permit” is entitled to ask which one.
